drjay44 (757), Salida, Colorado, USA Sep 6, 2008 750 ml. bottle. Pours an exhuberant head which rapidly diminishes, color is a lovely reddish tinged golden, nose of spice, yeast, with floral overtones, tastes of spice, malts, many different esters flow through, some better than others, mouth feel is good, late finish includes bitterness and a very late iodine overtone. cgarvieuk (4159), Edinburgh, Scotland Sep 5, 2008 Bottle at home ... every so slight pink amber ... Ever so big yeasty nose ... big vine fruits ...plums and grapes and candy sugar ... little yeastyness ... little citrus lassem (296), Copenhagen, Denmark Aug 30, 2008 Clay bottle... 50 cl.. Love it when the wrapping is a show off. Pours a dark goden with a fading head. The nose is expressive and kicking with citrus mixed with grass, butter, iodine, vanilla and melted butter. The taste is of cause trappist-like and I taste hops, plums, burned malts and brown sugar with a well-balanced finish. Thx to Faith no More for making the sountrack to this one. punainen6 (93), Finland Aug 20, 2008 Bottle.NIce dark orange pour. Aroma is sweet peaches, yeast. Nice round taste of citrus, banana and peaches. Not great but a nice solid example of the style. blipp (1630), Newark, New Jersey, USA Aug 16, 2008 Bottle. Pours deep orange brown with an off white head. Aroma is yeasty and spicy. Flavor has clove, ripe fruit, and yeast. Very nice. janubio (157), Spain Aug 13, 2008 330 ml bottle. Nice amber orange colour, with a good white head that disipates too fast, leaving just a ring.
Smell of oranges, plums, some subtle vanilla and medicinal or phenolics notes. Yeast and sulphurs too.
Sweet flavour though with some rough tones of yeast.
Taste of candy, citrus notes, banana and peaches. Not so strong body. cluny6 (115), Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England Aug 13, 2008 Pours a nice amber color with medium head that stays. If you swirl around the head comes back. The aroma is very faint, ripe banana like. Fruity, sweet and tarty. Ok but personally i think is overrated compare to other non trappist tripel. B TOSG55 (75), Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA Aug 8, 2008 Bottle (labeled as Koningshoeven Tripel). Pours a slightly cloudy orange, with minimal yeast sediment, and a thick head with large bubbles, which dissipates fairly quickly. Aroma is Belgian yeast and muted citrus. The yeast is the most prominent flavor; also apparent are citrusy fruits and some spices. The 8% ABV is quite apparent, and less well-balanced than one would hope. The mouthfeel lacks the creamy yet sharp aspect of many Belgian Tripels. Overall, a fine beer, but there are plenty of better examples of the style.
