kapusta (84), Dover, Delaware, USA Aug 11, 2007 Enjoyed this as Koningshoeven. Wounderful sweet fruity aroma with a dark orange color. Strong, spicey pear & honey flavor with a nice alcohol back drop. Warming and rich. beerheart (237), Erie, Colorado, USA Aug 7, 2007 Had this under its "Koningshoeven Tripel" alias. Had this a day after trying Westvleteren 12 for the first time, so anything else is going to taste like Bud-water. But this is a very nice example of the Tripel style. Not as good as Chimay Bleu, but I think every bit as good as a Corsendonk.
Onto the tasting notes: Pours a sparkling orange with caramel highlights. Initially nice but quickly thinning lace. Noticed apricots and bread as I raised the glass. Very smooth on the palate. Fruity with hints of apricots and brown sugar. Clean finish with a little warmth. CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Jul 31, 2007 Pours a transparent orange bronze with a thin, spotty-lacing off-white head. Aroma of sweet caramel and light fruits with a hint of biscuits and bready yeast. Body starts fairly full and caramely malty sweet with a decent light fruity complexity and some brown sugar. Finishes smooth with a hint of warmth. A pretty decent tripel. Nate (2533), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 26, 2007 Sweet aroma. Grain, honey, floral notes, a bit of bubblegum esters. Astringent yeast notes. Dark golden amber cloudy with frohy off-white lacing head. Heavy body with medium carbonation. Starts with sugary grainy sweetness, bubblegum and floral notes, mild yeast presence. Light funky sweet finish with dry yeastiness and no bitterness. Sweet after, though not cloying. Nice tripel. mpeve (28), Bolwarra, Australia Jul 24, 2007 Little noticeable aroma for a tripel. Amber in colour and medium bodied. Wonderful acidic fruit flavours, orange passionfruit. The alcohol is detectable but not overpowering. A really warming drop for a cold winter’s evening (which it is). Floback (333), Naples, Florida, USA Jul 20, 2007 Light amber color and white head with decent size. Nose is steel and slight skunk wheat. Skunkier than the dubbel. Tastes include smokey grain and earth. A little astringent with a cidery backdraft. Medium carbonation and medium body. Decent trippel. Defreni (994), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jul 18, 2007 Flaske. EN forholdsvis skuffende trippel. En klassisk duft og smag af pære som nok er La Trappes varemærke. Samt en lidt mørkere farve end normale trippels. MrBunn (1521), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 17, 2007 Updated: Jul 18, 2007Bottle. Beautiful amber colored body with a massive head. Aromas are grainy and fruity. Candi sugar is the first impression, but it gives way to a malty fruit presence that is well balanced and very enjoyable. Not as complex as some of the other tripels I’ve tried, but comes off very well.
