BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA Jul 7, 2005 Poured with a large, off-white head. Best lacing I’ve seen yet. Deep amber color with just a slight haze. Initial smells of banana, then citrus, very hoppy. The flavor starts sweet but goes bitter with lots of hops. Creamy, medium body. Great beer to have around. fluids (364), USA Jul 3, 2005 Orange brownish color for the pour. Spicey, Musty Citrus taste. As a trappist it definitely has its own signature and very recogizable.
Available at Downtown Wine & Spirits in Somerville, MA DragonStout (1380), Pataskala, Ohio, USA Jul 1, 2005 when i poured this and saw the copper color i knew this had to be good. This was close to the dubbell but a bit stronger. It had a medium body with some dark fruit and a small bite. This alo was warming going down. This brewer kicks butt.Gotta love them. richlikebeer (823), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 22, 2005 had two samples of this at egajdzis’ tripelfest, one new bottle, and one best before 95, both from HOPDOG. the older bottle was more malty and a little smoother, the newer was more carbonated and the flavors stood out more distinctly...my scores are a composite for the two bottles. aromas were toasty and had hints of sweet caramels and banana, color was an amber/caramel tone with a thin layer of white head (the new bottle had a bit more head). flavors started out with caramel sweet malts had a banana and clove thread in the middle, tailing off into some citrusy hops and spices. the tail was crisp and tart, with just a hint of chocolate. i enjoyed the drinkability of the older bottle a little more, but the flavors of the new one were a bit more enjoyable. either way, a very nice tripel. SpudClampDawg (1027), Jasper, Indiana, USA Jun 19, 2005 Lots of banana and clove in the nose, some cherry and ABV as well. More cherry comes out in the body and draws out into a nice dry finish. Plum and bittersweet chocolate as well. The alcohol warms nicely in the finish. SledgeJr (2957), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Jun 19, 2005 In the 750 ml bottle purchased from Gomer’s. An amazing bargain for $2.99. Wish that I had purchased more! Pours a deep amber color with an off white head. Fine fruity aroma of raisins and plums. This seems closer to an abby than a triple. Flavor is sweet and smooth with a good supporting body of malt and a strong alcohol aroma and mouth. Quite nice due to the drinkability. Was awesome with a T-bone steak grilled outdoors. mkobes (2103), paramus, New Jersey, USA Jun 19, 2005 1995 bottle. Thanks Hopdog. Dark amber in color with a nice white head. Candied malt aroma. Banana notes. Musty. Vanilla and citrus flavor. Light alcohol character. Thin palate. Ok beer. MaiBockAddict (1499), Good Beer Bar Deprived, New Jersey, USA Jun 19, 2005 2 Bottles, courtessy of Hopdog, one new and one BB 1995. Rating for the older version.
