bombshelter (349), Washington, Washington DC, USA May 5, 2005 bottle from brickskeller (labelled as konigshoeven now). darker than most tripels: leans to deep amber, slight head. aroma is mostly malt, some alcohol. quite full-bodied and sweet, but finishes pretty clean. fruit is present but subdued. IPFreely (1470), Lewiston, New York, USA Apr 18, 2005 Updated: Apr 19, 2005Orange in color, fuller beige head, floaties. Aroma of yeast, some spice, some pear. Pretty sweet, fuller soft and creamy body, slightly dry on the finish. Pretty tasty. BeerBlockaid (538), Jacksonville, Florida, USA Apr 12, 2005 Hazzy Orange and subtle head. Semi Fizzilla stomping through Tokyo. Was expecting more explosions from model tanks, being a tripel. This must have been the toilet break part of the movie because it didnt move me much more than teh dubbel. Well a little. Again sweet and more on a citrus tip than the dark fruit tip. Some light fruits like apple and banana tossed in. The balance is presented well but I still wanted more of an alchohol ting without the obvious. I’ll stick with the Quad and Blonde, though I prefer brunetts. DrGonzo (625), Somerville, Massachusetts, USA Apr 2, 2005 Bright hazy orange with large white head. Strong aroma resembling chardonnay at first, yeast, vanilla. Medium-full body, sweet like cake frosting, hints of citrus, apples, and yeast, dry finish. Well balanced overall, alcohol well hidden. A very tasty and solid tripel. bitter (1137), Henderson, Nevada, USA Mar 30, 2005 once again sampled at the arendnest in amsterdam on draft: red hazy with thin tan head, nose of fresh bread and mustiness. mouth of figs and apples, spice and bread.. a good full mouthfull on the palate. slight alcohol sting in the end. beerbuzzmontreal (2909), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Mar 24, 2005 Pours an attractive hazy amber color with a thin offwhite head that leaves decent lacing on the glass. Aroma of doughy yeast with very mild citrus and spices. The doughy yeast is also present in the flavor, it’s accompanied by tart citrus, mild sweet finish, there’s a lingering bittersweet feeling that remains in the mouth for a while and it’s kind of unpleasant. Full body, oily texture, soft to medium carbonation. Decent but not woth of buying another bottle, like their Blond and Dubbel. Tejas (693), Dallas, Texas, USA Mar 20, 2005 Updated: Apr 22, 2005Re-rate. Sampled at the Koninsghoeven pub. This one is MUCH better fresh. Very smooth and refreshing. Didn’t have the hot alcohol bite like the first sample I tried. Spice is clearly coriander which I find very tasty. Yeast delivers some fruity flavors too(banana?). I could drink a lot of these. leaparsons (4659), Leicester, Leicestershire, England Mar 15, 2005 Dark gold, like Gulden Draak. Aromas are bready yeast and sweet fruit with banana and spices. Flavours have the same doughy qualities with more sweet fruity malts. Great trappist mouthfeel. Good beer.
