Ungstrup (11385), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 16, 2002 Updated: Jun 23, 2005A cloudy orange beer with an OK head - but it disappears quit fast. It has a very fresh fruity and yeasty aroma with hints of alcohol. The flavor has an alcohol sharpness but is very pleasant fruity with hints of yeast. It’s a pretty sweet beer with almost no bitterness. The fruit taste lingers pretty long. omhper (10728), Stockholm, Sweden Feb 1, 2007 Draught at Monk’s Café, Stockholm. Clear ddep golden, very brief head. Nice buttery malt mixes with almody yeast in the nose. Sweet with above medium body and rather soft mouthfeel. Mild flavours of Old English Marmelade and flowery yeast. Not the most adventurous of tripels, but a solid effort that I certainly wouldn’t mind paying for again. Papsoe (10510), Frederiksberg, Denmark Aug 3, 2005 (Bottle 33 cl) Hazy golden, almost coppery with a handsome yet not very stable head. Very fresh and fruity nose, with some yeast. Weak caramel notes with a touch of something tart. Different impressions pointing in different directions. Overall still a wellmade - if not exactly harmonious - beer. 170200

Oakes (6979), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Dec 1, 2002 Though I never rated it here before, this is a re-rate since production was taken over by Bavaria. At least they still bottle-condition this one, unlike the Dubbel. Dark hazy amber - inappropriate for the style, unless you’re being whimsical but this definitely is not a whimsical rendition. Plasticy, phenolic, estery aroma - like latex paint and stewed peaches. Initial shot of alcohol masks the ruthless palate. Firm maltiness is fine, but the aforementioned off-flavours battle for supremacy, winning out in the end. Very much unpleasant and a steep downgrade. yespr (6944), Copenhagen O, Denmark Nov 16, 2007 33 cL bottle. Pours hazy orange with a huge, dense and light orange head. Classic caramel malt and mellow yeasty spice note, in addition there is a mild orange peel note. Flavour starts with a soft caramel and sweet malt flavour. A mellow yeast note appears which takes some fruity and spiced notes into the finish. Soft finish leaving the impression of a smooth triple, a bit dull compared to other examples within the style.
