Thought it would be a light hazy golden, it was amber and creamy. Lots going on in this beer. Lots of sweetness and soft fruits. Malty throughout. Slight alcohol burn. Drew (2409), Kent, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 21, 2002 Unsubstantial is the word that comes to mind. Starts fruity - grapes and pears. Thin in the middle, a little thicker around the sides. Finishes thinly sweet and dry - a hop/alcohol combo with light sugar bowl taste. This is not a bad brew, just lacks the complexity of many of the others in this style. No yeast floaties at all. My bottle had the new "Koningshoeven" label instead of La Trappe. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Nov 28, 2005 Bottle: Poured a deep orangey color ale with a nice light brown head with good retention. Aroma of candy with sweet malt is totally irresistible. Taste is also dominated with this sweet malt presence with a subtle mix of spice in the background. Alcohol is very well hidden but body is definitely too thin, which seems to be a characteristic of this brewery. badlizard (2360), Berkeley, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 13, 2007 750 mL bottle. Clear orange with a fluffy white head. Aroma of pear, banana, passion fruit, and yeast. Bright and lively palate. Caramel sweetness and mixed fruit taste with only a slight bitterness and a semi-dry finish. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 25, 2008 Pours a clear, glowing orange-amber with a foamy, cream colored head. The froth settles to a thin layer rather quickly, with wet, sudsy lace slowly rejoining the body. Aromas include candy sugar, cereal grains, coriander, and orange peel. Some doughy yeast and peppery hops complete the nose. Flavors are bittersweet, with the saccharine candy sugar being countered by bitter orange peel and pungent, dry coriander. There’s an overall floral feel to this one. The palate is medium bodied, lightly syrupy, and somewhat cloying. Decent brew. Not really my cup of tea. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 17, 2003 Bottled. Pure, golden clear body, with a rich large fluffy white head. Very good looking beer this. Lovely beer, that perhaps has been under rated thus to date. I really enjoyed this beer. It just lacked the finish a classy palate that would put it up with Duvel and others. Sigmund (2294), Hafrsfjord, Norway
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 4, 2005 330 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. Pours with an enormous head. Colour is deep golden to brown (amber), slightly hazy. Very nice aroma of fresh and dried fruits, spices, oak and exotic wood. Flavour is slightly spicy and peppery on a malty sweet basis with brown sugar and oaky elements. Not bad.
