Decants a hazy roiled honey-copper ale with Billowy white cap that reduces after a few sips to a lace-making ring.
Soft carbonation.
Aroma of succulent fruits, treacle, spices and sweet bread with some resinous undertones and some fusil alcohol.
Wonderful rounded mouth feel to this with abundant complexity in the flavour profile; raisin bread, caramel, orange rind, earthy tones, sharp resinous hopping, all mingling in balance. Finish is lingering and warming with a fruity-cake dominance.
A nice abbey triple done by a commercial brewer, I look forward to seeing how the 2 bottles I cellared will taste in a year or two. austone (1039), Turku; Pori, Finland

Nose is alcohol, rust, mild herbs and dried pear. Flavor is more of the same, huge booziness, metal, stuffy herbs, slightly ashy bitterness, low on fruits. Loads of alcohol warmth in the finish. Medium bodied, average soft palate. Here’s a prime example off a bad bad tripel. Yves (1036), Beerse, Belgium
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 10, 2008 Orange amber coloured beer. Nice aroma and palate. Finish a little bitter. Good one. IslandHaole (1035), Onna-Son, Okinawa-Ken, Japan
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Aug 31, 2002 A nice copper hue with a big thick head of fine bubbles. Scent of lawn clippings and fruit cocktail. As it warms the 8% alcohol becomes evident. A bit too effervescent. I can’t quite pin it down but there just seems to be something lacking in this beer that keeps it from being great. Defreni (1032), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 18, 2007 Flaske. EN forholdsvis skuffende trippel. En klassisk duft og smag af pære som nok er La Trappes varemærke. Samt en lidt mørkere farve end normale trippels. Lowe1983 (1029), Fairborn, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 15, 2009 Pours an amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is dark fruits, caramel malts, and a hint of alcohol. Flavor is similar with a dry almost sweet finish. Slight warming but not too much. estoppel (1028), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Sep 27, 2003 This is labeled Koningshoeven Tripel Trappist Ale, but I'm assuming it's the same thing. The picture on the label is identical to the one on the left here; only the text is different. Fairly dark amber for a tripel, medium thick white head, mellow fruitiness with just a tiny touch of spice in the nose. Mixed fruit, especially melon, in the body with overly strong medicinal alcohol presence. As Oakes says, plasticy. Some bitterness appears in the finish. Not a superb example of the style. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 19, 2005 Lots of banana and clove in the nose, some cherry and ABV as well. More cherry comes out in the body and draws out into a nice dry finish. Plum and bittersweet chocolate as well. The alcohol warms nicely in the finish.
