Pours an exhuberant head which rapidly diminishes, color is a lovely reddish tinged golden, nose of spice, yeast, with floral overtones, tastes of spice, malts, many different esters flow through, some better than others, mouth feel is good, late finish includes bitterness and a very late iodine overtone. beachbum25 (786), Powellville, Maryland, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 10, 2007 750 ML Bottle-Deep copper color w/a minimal tan head. Sweet belgian aroma. Sweet flavor of yeast, raisins, figs, dates, vanilla, caramel & dark fruit. Had some citrus/spice/colander on the back end. Big, full mouthfeel w/good carbonation; very easy drinking brew. Alcohol was well hidden. Easily the best of the 4 Latrappe brews sampled during a July 4th vertical. yalnikim (781), Wellington, New Zealand

Pours a rich orange gold, not quite bright, with a billowing off-white head that collapses. The nose is significantly clovey with a little underlying alcohol note (raisin and vanilla). In the mouth it’s cloying and clovey. Too clovey. Medium-fullish body and too sweet in the finish. Little complexity. Totally one-dimensional - way too phenolic - and the only Trappist beer I’ve ever had to pour down the sink... I’m very disappointed. Purchased a four-pack. Shared one bottle with a study group. Only got through half a bottle on my own, and then gave the other two away. DrBeer (777), Danderyd Stockholm, Sweden

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 8, 2003 Pours a cloudy, orangish golden color with a big, white, lingering head. The aroma is strongly malty sweet with a touch of alcohol. Full body with little carbonation, the flavor is thick and malty sweet with hints of alcohol, yeast, and nuts. Finish is mildly hoppy and spicy. Very nice. jehoey (766), Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 9, 2005 Updated: Feb 18, 200533 cl, fairly cold in tall Maredsous stem glass. Pours a murky orangey-amber, with unavoidable transfer of sediment, into a slight and disappearing head. Cidery look. Candy and stewed-fruits aroma and taste. Taste slight clove and warm apple pie, pears dried and stewed. Interesting. After a Chimay Bleu, this beer has tons of flavor, but damn that sediment in the glass looks a mess. Candy and soft bitter-herb aftertaste. What a big aroma. Sheer pleasure in the glass, would get this by the case in spite of all the clumpy ’yeast poop’ swirling around the bottom of that beautiful glass.
