My favorite La Trappe. Was a bit on the acidic side tho.

The only Trappist ale I tried before this one was Chimay Bleu, which I didn’t think was that fantastic. Although I figured I should give the style another shot, and I am happy I did. This brew doesn’t have the overwhelming alcohol flavor like the Chimay, and it’s flavor is very enjoyable. I just might try another Belgian strong!

Pours a cloudy, orangish golden color with a big, white, lingering head. The aroma is strongly malty sweet with a touch of alcohol. Full body with little carbonation, the flavor is thick and malty sweet with hints of alcohol, yeast, and nuts. Finish is mildly hoppy and spicy. Very nice.

Old Bottle, with the old name. Apple, yeast, banana, papaya nose. Fizzy Carbonation. Orange with a little head. Brussels lace. Bready taste, applejuice like at the end. Warm but initial alcohol finish. "It’s like a muld sandwich" (arnoud)

This beer poured a reddish amber and formed a bubbly off white head that left circular lace as it subsided. A good amount of carbonation is present. An aroma of malt, herb and bread. A flavor of malt and citrus with a warming slight presence of the alcohol. A slight tart finish on a light body brought on in part, no doubt, to the heavy carbonation. Not a bad tripel.

Heavy Malt Nose, full of hoppiness and Belgian sweetness.Sweet at first then, hops, then flavors of orange and alcohol. Recommended if you like these type Ales, Tropical Storm Isidore is giving us some much needed rain, it was the 3rd driest Summer on record here where I live. This cool rain tells us that Oktoberfest is not far away.

Cloudy amber color with a small off-white head. The aroma was very fruity...apples, pears, cherries...with a nice sweet malty English barleywine character to it. The flavor was very sweet, fruity, tea character in the aftertaste, and a noticeable alcohol warmth throughout. The feel was soft, but crisp...slightly thick.

Caught in a rapid, sweet malt and nutty yeast current with nothing to hang on to, you try to grasp the rock berries and lemon logs that fly by but to no avail...A few branches of peppery herbs are thrown at you, but instead of saving you they slap you in the face and leave a stinging honey-sweet flavor in your bleeding mouth...Inevitable, phenolic treacley falls carry you, you think, to a certain demise but you wake up some moments later all dried up and ready to go...Again!...
