Lots of malty and light fruit notes (cherries and cranberries), in the aroma and some menthol/medicinal notes. Tastes clean and dry, with sour citrus and an unusual taste in the back of the throat. Also has a subtle alcoholic bite, which lingers into a bitter-sweet, malty, aftertaste. Muted hops also come through towards the finish. Interesting and complex. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 21, 2002 Aroma is very yeasty, with elements of wood, caramel and fruit in the profile. Excellent ceramic bottle, tall pithy light tan head and medium peach-brown beer.
Flavor is fairly dry, earthen, woody. There were some unpleasant traces of ketones, and the beer was perhaps a bit too tannic. Palate a bit acidic, with building bitter. JPDIPSO (4926), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 27, 2007 This beer is a mostly clear orange-amber color with a medium thick off-white head that dissipates slowly. Thin spotty rings of lacing. The aroma contains yeast, malt, sour fruit and light spices. Medium-bodied with a nice spice/yeast character. Flavors of tart fruit, candi sugar, peppery spices and yeast are all present. The finish is fruity and yeasty and leaves a mild herbal hops aftertaste. This beer is enjoyable from start to finish. So far a perfect belgian strong ale. However, I did not really like the bittersweet finish. jsquire (2113), St. Marys, Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 12, 2003 Cloudy orange with a quickly dissipating off-white head and pleasant aroma of caramel toffee and candy sugars. The flavor is of dry sweetness with apple and white grape fruit notes. It finished with a heavier, candy sugar sweetness in the background. The body did seem a little thin, but otherwise an enjoyable tripel. This bottle did have a new label and was not called La Trappe anymore, but was just named for the brewery. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 11, 2004 My first beer after a 12 day "liver healing" abstinence. Good to be back! Starts off with a light amber colored pour with a light, yet clumpy white head, good lacing. Effervescent bubble action lasts throughout - very good looking brew. Aroma - Alcohol is most apparent but not overwhelming, also note traces of bubble gum and apricots. Flavor has a slight bit of nuttiness with faint bubblegum and cotton candy sugar sweetness. Not very complex. Alcohol is apparent but not overwhelming. Carbonation is just about right - not champagne-like - but lively and perky. Very drinkable Tripel, not one for the ages, but a pleasant diversion.
