Bottle from trade. I cut my teeth on this brew in the 70s revisiting it after pouring oceans of craft and Brit porter over my tongue is ,as with all your teen beers, always a letdown. This was a sweet beer with light roast to it thin mouth and fast finish with a near cloying after taste ...the product of molasses and some brewers caramel...not a real porter in any sense.

From a 340 ml. bottle marked JO2L84-0342. Pours a dark brown with beige head that lingers for a short while. Aroma of malts and grains. I don’t notice anything like cocoa, chocolate, or smoky like most porters I have had. More bready maybe. Adequate body. Flavor is sweeter, syrupy and slightly hopped. As far as porters go, it falls a bit short. But for good or for bad, it still is in league of its own. Yeah, I would have it again (I will too, because I have three more left).

A very heavy, sweet taste to accompany its dark colour. It’s thick as molasses, so it’s definitely not for casual drinking. Works well with cigars.

Bouteille 341ml.

[532-20070815] 341mL. Dark rum raisin hay aroma. Black brown body with a quick foamy light tan head. Roasted hay flavour continues with a raisin dark fruit background. Medium body seems thin but is nice and smooth. Surprising for a Labatt product, in a good way.

Black-brown with a flat tan cap. Very metallic aroma with sweet brown-sugar notes. Yeeesh! This stuff is very sweet, like glucose syrup really. I know others have said it is "cola-like", but only in its overbearing sweetness. There is a hint of roast at the start, but it is quickly forgotten as this becomes cloying and unpleasant. A disservice to the style.
