Nice malty or carob aroma. Impressive pour for a cheap mysterious beer. Very dark with an initially creamy head which goes almost rocky after the pour! Some hints of alky but overall the taste is well behaved and friendly. Roasty porter with a slight labats background. Good carbonation for a porter. Not bad, perhaps there is some choco in the flavor too. A tad thin for a porter, just barely. Is not offensive, yet retains a nice dark beer attribute. Finish reminds me of many dark American lagers, well behaved, courteous and gentlemanlike with southern manners. ’’

DougShoemaker (2856), Toronto, Canada

Sweet chocolate malt taste, a good bitter aftertaste. Bitter and sweet? Pretty good. Thanks to joey_capps for sharing this one year old!

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 2, 2005 Bottle: Aroma of mostly very sweet chcolate. Pours a dark brown with orange hilights when held to the light. Insignificant white head. Very sweet and malty. Sweet chocolate all the way thru with some extra sweetness in the finish. So sweet that I’m not ever sure it’s sweet chocolate. Boutip (2399), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jan 18, 2005 Poured a pitch-black color ale with very little head or carbonation. Aroma is quite sweet with some trace of chocolate also noticeable. Taste is quite enjoyable at first with sweet chocolate being easily detectable. The only problem here is that there is nothing else thereafter: no bitterness or roastiness. Also, after a couple of sip, the sweetness becomes overwhelming, a bit too much of artificial flavour I believe. Anyway, better then most products Labatt brews.
