BlackDonald (1040), North Carolina, USA Jul 17, 2008 Roasted chocolate nose, sweet on the palate and very simple, pure and easy to drink. Nothing near complex, almost slightly thin with typical flavors associated with porters. Has kind of a bitter sour finish which completely turned me off to the beer.
Bradrcr (606), Renton, Washington, USA Jun 29, 2008 6/28/08 On draught at the Brewpub. Aroma is very chocolatey with an even sweet/roast balance. Appearance is dark brown with a well maintained cream colored head and good lacing. Flavor is quite sour/bitter with black malt, but not past the stout level. There’s some dark fruit and decent sweetness, but very low hop bittering. Mouthfeel is full bodied with a moderate carb carb texture. Overall, complex and interesting, but not easy drinking. jcwattsrugger (3942), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Nov 5, 2007 on nitro-pours a light tan head that laces and dark brown color. Aroma is dark malt-coffee/dark chocolate, acidic. Taste is dark malt-coffee/dark chocolate, acidic. Thin. No/minimum carbonation. shigadeyo (1371), Southwest Ohio Area, Ohio, USA Sep 4, 2007 Pacific Northwest Vacation 2007...
8/18/2007: LaConner Porter was induced with nitrogen and therefore created a dense (super fine bubbles), creamy tan head atop the very deep brown beer. The head lasted for quite some time and produces solid lacing comprised of tiny bubbles. The aroma is creamy, roasty chocolate with a slightly acidic or sour note. The flavor was watered down roasted malt with notes of chocolate and char. It is dry and bordered on ashy. There is a mild to moderater level of bitterness in the finish. This beer was average to above average overall.
Draught (7% ABV) at LaConner Brewing Company in LaConner, Washington. Rating #9 for this beer...
DarkElf (2661), La Jolla, California, USA Sep 1, 2005 (Draft: LaConner Brewing Company in LaConner, WA) Moderately roasty and chocolaty nose also exudes a bit of sourness. Okay, perhaps more than a bit. It smells like there is sour cherries in the mix, but that’s certainly not intentional. The flavor is fairly sour as well, with a moderate roasty and fruity character in the background. Since this isn’t the desired effect, it’s quite strange to say the least. Supposedly this beer is on nitro, but nothing speaks nitro in this beer. The tan head is small and very bubbly, and leaves no lace on the glass. The palate seems no more smooth than a normal draft beer, and the sourness is a bit unpleasant. Dark brown color is standard for a porter. Might be an okay porter, but the sourness is not good.
