Sampled at HotShotz Indy tasting May 24, 2008 - Aroma is dark malts, oats, grease and chocolate. Pours light black with a small head and good lacing. Flavor matches aroma and is pretty mellow. This may be due to it’s place in the tasting. Palate is creamy and smooth. Not bad and will probably rate higher when I get it on it’s own.

12 oz bottle: Deep black core with tan highlights and a thick brown head. Notes were light but present, mostly nuts and caramel. The body was even and balanced with chocolate, nuts, caramel and coffee. The oatiness was missing though. A well done brew that didn’t extend itself in any direction to warrant a second look. Solid but expected.

Draft At LB brewpub. Poured a hazy dark black color with an average creamy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Good roasted chocolate aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Moderate roasted bittersweet flavor with a Moderate bittersweet smooth finish of average duration. Solid beer.

Very dark brown pour with no head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, toffee. Nice, subdued aroma. Taste is slightly acidic with an oatmeal and roasted malt presence. Decent.

Clean aroma, slight toasted malt on the nose. Very dark, with very very thin head. More bitterness than expected, lacked the smoothness/silkiness that I’d expect with this style. Perhaps reducing some of the darker grains and adding more oat (malt) could balance this more. Generally bitter throughout with some dark chocolate in the finish. Overall it is a middle of the road oatmeal stout. .

Thanks to Bob, Michelle, and mostly my baby Jana for the 12th annual Indiana Microbrewers Festival today! On tap @ the fest. Nose of coffee, vanilla, oats, and flowers. The beer is black. The fully lasting brown creamy head leaves good lace. The brew is very well balanced, and has moderate acidity. The long finish is of espresso. The full soft body is creamy and the finish feels dry. Lafayette was definitely the biggest surprise today! I made a new friend.
