When held up to natural light, one can see that this has a very dark brown body. Its tan head lingers none too long. There’s a bunch of oats in the aroma, perhaps to be expected since the grain bill contains 10% oatmeal. This is complemented by lightly roasted malt and some bittersweet chocolate. Nice and smooth to drink, it tastes of roasted malts with a touch of barley, oats, and milk chocolate. A nutty/earthy bitterness enters midway though and lasts into the finish. Pretty decent.

Draft At LB brewpub. Poured a hazy dark black color with an average creamy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Good roasted chocolate aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Moderate roasted bittersweet flavor with a Moderate bittersweet smooth finish of average duration. Solid beer.

Review #2: Growler at 2008 DLD, my number hardly vary from the original review years ago. The mouth feel is thinner than before and overall not quite as good. -1 P, -1 Overall.

Review #1 (3.7) Very dark hue with amber and reddish highlights. A nice creamy tan head that produced above average lace. The aroma is sweet with lots of mocha, caramel, oats, and mild smoky notes. Also detected some floral hops, Kona like coffee aromatics, and zesty yeast esters as well. The taste starts malty with good mocha and noticeable oats characteristics. Additional undertones of traditional bitterness, smoke, pears, and coffee. The finish is lingering bitter and a touch lactic. The mouth feel is very smooth and soft, medium-bodied. This is one excellent sweet stout, hits on all notes. A touch more floral and bittering hops, also bit more body then it would be near world-class.

This draft brew from the brewery poured a small head of fine to medium sized light brown colored bubbles that left behind a good lacing. The body was an opaque black color with no visible carbonation. The aroma was that of mild coffee and dark malts. The mouth feel was initially smooth and mellow with a mild lingering dark malt bite in the aftertaste. The flavor contained notes of bread coffee and dark malts. A very tasty brew indeed. Probably the best beer there in my humble opinion.

On tap at LBC. This beer formed a very small sized tan head that contained fine-medium sized bubbles that fully diminished. This beer was opaque with a black hue. The aroma was sweet, caramel and some coffee notes. The flavor was that of coffee and smoke. The mouthfeel was smooth and this was a medium bodied beer with good lacing. A good Sweet Stout and worth trying.
