dark amber, whispy head, rich earthy malt aroma, rich malt flavor with just enough hops to ballance and give a touch of lasting bitterness, too bitter for a scotch, but a damn fine brew

The aroma is toffee and butterscotch with some white bread toast. Peat smoke emerges in the flavor to complement the malty sweetness nicely. An easygoing, sessionable ale.

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 29, 2004 This draft brew from the brewery poured a small head of fine to medium sized off-white colored bubbles that left behind a good lacing. The body was a transparent carbonated amber brown color. The aroma was very mild and slightly malty. The mouth feel was smooth with a mild tingle The flavor was smooth mild and had a lingering malty red aftertaste. A nice brew but awful thin for a Scottish. hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Apr 6, 2004 On tap at LBC. This beer formed a very small sized light tan head with fine sized bubbles that quickly diminished. The body was carbonated and transparent with an amber brown hue. All I could detect for an aroma was malt and the flavor was sweet, malty and a little smokey tasting. The mouthfeel was smooth and the lacing was fair. A so-so Scottish Ale in my opinion. patrick767 (2038), fort wayne, Indiana, USA

The aroma is light malt. It tastes malty as is typical for the style, but also has a nice hops bite to it. There’s a medium body that goes down smoothly and has a dry finish with mild alcohol. decaturstevo (2004), decatur, Tennessee, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 26, 2007 On tap at LBC. A deep amber/brown pour without head or lacing. An almost candy aroma without much hops. A toasted malt flavor with a hop kicker in the end. Just a bit over carbonated for me and just a tad thin. A very drinkable beer.
