pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Jan 25, 2009 Indy Winterfest ’09. From firkin. Darker and still with no head. Roast, woody smoke. Very campfire, some dark malt. Still mouthfeel, low CO2, not quite watery. Cola-like acidity. Forward roast. Small diacetyl. Lingering chocolate roast. Equal parts smoke and porter, not bad. StFun (535), Indiana, USA Jan 5, 2009 Growler thanks to Sprinkle. Pours a light brown with an amber hue. Aroma is nice and smokey. Not a real meaty smoke, more like a pour from liquid smoke, but still enjoyable. Texture is fairly plain and watery, but flavor is good for a local porter. Hints of chocolate and wood, backed up with smoke. Touch of dark fruit and vanilla. Pretty nice, I liked this one. CharlesDarwin (1823), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Dec 30, 2008 On tap at the brewpub. Dense, fading aroma that ebbs dusty and old smokehouse. Pours a dark black-brown with a quick fading tan rim. Flavor immediately washes out. Thin, metallic, and lightly bitter. The smoke tastes like hickory from a small bottle. Not a real quality smoke character. Thin, watery, and washed out. Not real enjoyable. Not nearly enough density, porter character or quality smoke. Just not worth it. hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA Apr 6, 2004 On tap at LBC. Poured a very small sized tan head that contained fine-small sized bubbles that quickly dissipated. This beer was opaque with a dark brown hue. The aroma was malty, smokey, hoppy and some caramel notes. The flavor was smokey and somewhat sweet with a slight aftertaste. The mouthfeel was smooth and a little thin. The lacing was very sparse. BBB63 (4199), La Porte, Indiana, USA Apr 4, 2004 Deep brown with ruby highlight which produces a short creamy tan head and good lace. The aroma hints of caramel, mocha, hazelnut, smoke, floral hops, and earthy yeast esters. The taste starts bittersweet with a nice hoppy and mocha presence. The finish displays a very smoky character with a minimal lingering bitter tone. The mouthfeel is average for a porter, lively, a tad thin, and overall smooth. A good brew worth a try if in the area and still on tap. thedm (3833), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Mar 28, 2004 This draft brew from the brewery poured a minimal head of fine to medium sized off-white colored mostly lasting bubbles that left behind a fair lacing. The body was nearly opaque with no visible carbonation and a dark brown color. The aroma was smoky and malty. The mouith feel was smooth with no bite and mo lingering aftertaste. The flavor was smoky and malty with the smokyness overpowering all of the other notes that may or may not have been present. A one of a kind Porter available only at their brewery. A must try.
