Commercial Description:
A refreshingly light, yet very complex flavor gives this one a very european 'Savoir Faire'. From Lagunitas Brewing: "The style of this one is tough to pinpoint--we rarely brew beers to fit any particular style. Saison is pretty close-- we used Westmalle yeast on a nice light ale, and the result is what we like to call an Uzbeki Raga Ale." Tony at Lagunitas calls this a "pumped-up version of our highly-touted Lagunator."

Note: 2004 edition was 7.7% ABV, 2006 is 6.6%.

Clear, metallic yellow-orange body with mild carbonation and a loose sudsy white head that faded fairly quickly. Citrusy, bubble gum esters and some clove-like phenols in the aroma and flavor. Light peppery taste as well. Medium sweetness with a plasticky, phenolic and light bitter finish. Medium-light body. A couple properties stand out here, mostly yeast byproducts, and little else offers much balance. Comes across as a Belgian Ale that lacks depth.

Bottle #10: Pours a clear bright golden with a thick, forthy, and well lacing clean white head. Has a crisp lightly bready Belgian yeasty aroma with a touch of citrus spice and dry pepper. Body starts semi-sweet, quickly turning more dry and spiced with a decent Belgian malt and yeasty presence. Finishes with a touch of candy sugar, earthy hops and a mild peppery spice. A decent, crisp, and drinkable beer, but could use some more complexity and a touch more sweetness.

loose, big foamy, characteristically Lagunita’s head. A golden, well carbonated body. Fresh and yeasty. floral with plenty of esters. a crispy, grainy belgian golden. a tasty, yeast dominated beer. smooth, yet biting leaves slick and sticky. good on a cooler summer night

Great Belgian style summer Ale, brisk fruity aroma couples with a nicely spiced, not too heavy, drinkable Ale. Crisp and refreshing, orange yellow in color, great off white head and thick lacing.

Poured a vibrant golden color with a medium sized white head and nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is sweet, light citrus, yeast, certainly a funky 7.7% Belgian ale. Taste was dry, light citrus and finished spritzy. Taste was a little duller than expected, this is alright.

Assertively Belgian, the yeast is the first and foremost flavor here. Light and crisp with a smooth wash of yeast, but as the beer warms the finish is a bit compromised. The high alchohol gives the bubblegummy yeast a sort of burnt potpouree flavor which is not alltogether bad - perhaps a bit like pipe tobacco. Honestly, I think the yeast is just a touch too overpowering. Some more malt is needed for better balance, but overall not a bad beer.

Very nice saison stlye golden ale. Herbal, hoppy aroma with some hay and grass. Requisite banana flavor with less yeast than othr Begians. Very good. Thanks to FlipBrewer for the brew.

Nicely pale with lots of Belgian style esters in the aroma. Only improved as it warmed, but was nicely balanced. This was a very nice beer and at $3.50/22oz, I may have to go back and get some more, however it is not a mind blower. Definitely a surprise given their reputation for IPAs and BWs.
