Commercial Description:
A refreshingly light, yet very complex flavor gives this one a very european 'Savoir Faire'. From Lagunitas Brewing: "The style of this one is tough to pinpoint--we rarely brew beers to fit any particular style. Saison is pretty close-- we used Westmalle yeast on a nice light ale, and the result is what we like to call an Uzbeki Raga Ale." Tony at Lagunitas calls this a "pumped-up version of our highly-touted Lagunator."

Note: 2004 edition was 7.7% ABV, 2006 is 6.6%.

22oz - Aroma of sweet bread dough, honey, alcohol, flowers, and spice. Pours clear gold with a small head and good lacing. Flavor is very doughy with tart floral hops, honey and a touch of spice. Palate is creamy and tart. Probably better on a hot day rather than in a hotel room in November, but tasty nonetheless.

(07.09.06) One pint, 6 oz brown bottle from DiCarlo’s, Mundelein, IL. 6.6% ABV. IBU 29.50. OG 1.076. Skunky malty aroma. Poured clear golden yellow with medium white head. Good carbonation. Light to medium bodied ale that starts with light malt sweetness and spicy coriander fruity flavors. Dry finish with light hop bitterness. Rather mild in flavor, this is a decent drinkable summer beer.

Pour was a light amber color with okay head and almost no lacing. Aroma was very wheaty, apples, coriander. Flavor was much the same, very peppery. A little over spiced for me but not a bad beer.

Poured a clear amber color with a decent initial off-white, near white head, weak retention and lacing. The aroma was like a witbier, wheat, coriander, apples, some bananas, pepper. The flavor followed suit, starting out a touch sweet, then transitioning to a bitter finish, somewhat barley / wheat bitter with black pepper. Mouthfeel was tingly (more spice than carbonation), lightly dry, but lightly sweet thick (but not thick).

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow & tupalev -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a clear pale gold with a small diminishing white head. Very strange aroma (to me anyway) of Belgian yeast, spices, some smoke and fruit -- weird, I’m having a hard time describing it and I’m not loving it. Flavour: Ah, that’s more like it: Sweet and yeasty with some spices, citrus and a dry, lightly bitter finish. Medium bodied. Pretty good, this is definitely an interesting beer for this brewery.

Bottled. Golden coloured with a rather large whiteish head. A bit malty with notes of caramel and fruits. A wee bit breadish and yeasty. Somewhat bitter finish.

From a 22 oz. bomber bottle with a blurb along the right side of label, 2006 release. Poured a lightly hazy orangey golden with a foamy, airy white head that settled into a thin bubbly lacing. Aromas of softly wild yeast, citrus, pears, a little clove, and a sweet pale Belgian maltiness. Good, light carbonation and a crisp, dryish, smooth light bodied mouthfeel. A pleasant Belgian tasting brew, sort a of cross in styles, candied sugar and wild yeast, a touch dry powdery, pears with a light lemon zest, a light and airy tartness, to me, a Belgian wheat maltiness, a nice Belgian grains of paradise spiciness and a dry yeasty and malty finish. I thought this was a cross between a saison and witbier, but I will need to have another bottle to confirm this, an interesting experiment.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, tupalev & blankboy - HogTownHarry’s bottle. Clear light gold, bare wisp of a head. Aroma - man, there’s a lot going on - floral, fruity, a bit musty, citrus, a hint of smoke. Crisp body. Flavour - malt, honey, citrus, dry finish. Quite unique.
