The aroma is chocolatey with some candi sugar, perfume, and raisins. A chocolate, caramel, fig, mild citrus, and cookie dough flavor. A bit of alcohol sting in the aftertaste with a slightly doughy mouthfeel. This is very similar to an Arrogant Bastard with a more evident alcohol presence of course. Overall this is some good stuff. There’s hops, caramel, spice, maybe some coffee, it has it all with a big alcohol warmth too. Sickboy282 (1101), San Diego, California, USA

Pours a dark reddish-brown. Just a hint of transparency. Small off-white head. Caramel and very light banana bread. Somewhat roasty and hoppy finish. Light chocolate in the background. No hint of the high ABV in flavor or warmth. Reminds me a little of a Scotch Ale. Very nice. SpringsLicker (2043), Tennessee, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 22, 2005 4oz sample @ ABF. Good nose, orange/grapefruit, prune/raisin, caramel. Hazy orangy brown color. Bitter sweet flavors. Like the aromas with an oaky, whiskey addition. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel, Bittersweet finish with a little burn. Good brew, Lagunitas rocks. 5000 (2900), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 22, 2005 Bottle: Viscous pour, burnt orange, nearly brown, moderate light beige foamy head, attractive lacing. Looks like a Barley Wine on the pour. Big meaty/malty nose, some dark bready characteristics as well. Definite hop background, assertive yet smooth. Big bodied, moderate to full mouthfeel. Dark, chewy, malty, bready finish. Maybe even a subtle hint of tobacco and caramel in there. This is a sipping beer. Having this 22oz before bed is destroying me! Resiny after the finish. Definitely eat something while enjoying this one, else else! The 11.3% ABV is dangerously hidden. Not very complex, but well constructed, and BIG.   Thanks Ernie for the samples!
