iowaherkeye (1832), Bakersfield, California, USA Jun 30, 2009 On cask @ Toad in the Hole. Clear dark copper with a one finger tan head that took a few minutes to fade to a thick ring and tattered film. The bourbon, oak and vanilla (along with boozy alcohol) are quite evident, especially given the serving temperature. There is also some roasted malts aand some sweet caramel. The flavor isn’t as roasty as I’d have thought considering it is 70% impy stout, though it is still present with a good amount of caramel. Still plenty of bourbon and booze as well, but it seems to blend with the caramel nicely--not as well as Marin BA Dipsea, though. I also picked up on just a little cherry. The finish is semi-dry with just a little alcohol noted. Minimal carbonaation with a medium-full smooth body. Better than I thought it was going to be.
