Draft. Pours a dark brune black body with no head. Licorice, dark malts, and chard hop resins. Etoh and bourbon with some vanilla woodiness. Eh this should have never gone into a barrel.

Very dark thick pour with a small head. Glass has some lacing. Aroma has a faint sour twang with a sugary sweetness, chocolate and mellow bourbon and wood. Flavor is sweet, smooth, cocoa, vanilla, a bit of roasted malts and some bourbon and wood.

Cask @ Hopmonk. Pours a very dark, chocolate brown color; medium-tan head - huge, textured - with great retention; like a dark sea foam. Spicy pepperiness, like brandy-like (rounded alcohol) notes, and some oily dark chocolate in the nose; smells softly barrel-aged. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: lots of barrel character showing in the mouth; bourbony, some alcohol (it really ramps up as it warms, hugely so), lightly spicy, bitter chocolate and licorice and a peppery character; soft core; fluffy presence from the cask. Not a great example of barrel-aging, but pleasant enough served like this: lasting finish of barrel notes; oak, light bitterness, chocolate.

on tap at the new lagunitas tasting room! Oaky vanilla with chocolate malts and molasses on the nose. Pours very dark brown with a thin tan head. Chocolate and vanilla with smooth oak and bourbon flavors with just a hint of spice notes. Excellent!

A deep darks tout with a thin light moka head. Nice chocolate and licorice aroma, with sweet dark fruits. In mouth, a nice wooden sweet vanilla beans, milk chocolate, and corky wood barrel notes. A bit lighter than expected but excellent. On tap at brewery, August 16 2009.
