Commercial Description:
The hops faded and the caramelly sweetness came out of the woodwork as this puppy spent a year micro-oxidizing in the barrel, makes the end result almost like a cellared Shugga.

On cask at SDBC. Excellent bourbon aromas and flavor. More bourbon then most, but not over the top. Wood, vanilla, bourbon, maple. Good stuff. Great night of beers at San Diego Brewing Company.

Tasted at the 4th Annual Bistro Barrel Aged Beer Fest on 11/14/2009. This Barley Wine pours a medium brown color. Small sized white foamy head. The aroma is brown sugar, bourbon and sweet. A medium to full bodied Barley Wine. The malts are fruity and sweet, lots of brown sugar and molasses. Very smooth tasting. The bourbon flavors are very mellow and smooth. This is a great beer for barrel aging. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is sweet.

Pours deep muddy brown with no head. Nice bready and malty nose and flavor with light bourbon, vanilla and oak. Smooth on the palate.

On tap at Bistro BA Fest poured a hazy reddish brown with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of brown sugar, carmel, bourbon, vanilla, pepper and light fruittiness. Palate was light to medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of brown sugar, carmel, vanilla and light bourbon with a smooth dry finish.

Draft @ Bistro Barrel Aged Festival. Pours a murky, reddish-brown color; light-tan head with solid, fine-bubbled lacing. Lots of sour-mash whiskey / bourbon character in the aroma: brown sugar, charred barrel notes; a light sour-mash presence. Decent amounts of bourbon / sour mash notes, warming alcohol and complex maltiness upfront; solid barrel character, earthy malts, brown sugar, some smoked meat character as well; chewy, dense beer. Lasting finish: basic sour-mash bourbon, earthy maltiness, well-integrated throughout.

another great lagunitas brew. Great balance of hops and malt. Sweet nose and taste from the sugar. Nice citric, vanilla, and maple notes. Much like the Imperial Red, but at 10% you feel this one.

On tap at San Diego Brewing co. OMFG this is good. Hand pumped. Caramel orange brown in the glass with no head, and lingering lace. Nose is rich sweet. Caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, and booze. Not overpowering. Taste is beautiful. Rich, smooth, and warmly sweet. Thick in the mouth. Vanilla, clove, brown sugar, and the rich alcohol sweetness of bourbon. I had two pints, but probably should have stopped at one. I don’t believe this one is only 10%abv. It put me on my ass.
