A very smooth drink, good dark carmel and molassas flavor, but some actual citrus in the hops. The alcohol and carbonation somehow makes the sweetness seem natural. gunnfryd (3614), Kristiansand, Norway

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 26, 2009 12oz. bottle, pours copper red, aroma is sugary sweet, taste is light sugar, the brown sugar character is evident, finidh is light, crisp, small sweet aftertaste. A good beer, but I felt like there was little difference in the taste profile between this and the undercover shutdown ale. yesyouam (609), Fairport, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 25, 2009 Lagunitas Brown Shugga’ is a very clear amber ale with a thin sand-colored head that fades. It has a malty, somewhat medicinal, aroma. It is medium bodied; smooth and syrupy with a sticky finish. It’s sweet on the lips and then becomes pretty bitter. There is a wood resin flavor present. The finish is long and boozy. I think I expected something sweeter and more malt-focused, but this is OK. Mdgutows (42), Charlotte, North Carolina, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 19, 2009 Pours a brownish red with an inch of off-white head. Sweet sugary aroma with a little grassy hops. Taste is very similar to the smell except the grassiness stands out a little more. Medium thickness and medium/high carbonation. This is tasty. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 18, 2009 Reddish-brown pour with a tan head. Aroma of hops and some sweetness. Taste is malt, sweetness, but the sweetness goes away to a dry malt taste in my mouth. Alcohol is not noticeable, but there is some warmth in the aftertaste. Head went away but left a small trace of lace. kopher (307), New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 14, 2009 it looks like orange cream soda
aroma is like candied fruit and grass
not too heavy for a barleywine
taste is more bitter, alcohol and hoppy finish mostly
extra carbonation lightens it up a bit

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Mar 12, 2009 Bottle. Pours clear dark copper with a small bubbly beige head. Nose is hoppy overripe orange, brown sugar, sweet potato, a little alcohol. Tastes much the same, but the alcohol isn’t much more than a pleasant warmth. Mouthfeel is thick and sticky and finish is long with a nice citrus hop bitterness and subtle brown sugar.
