Poured copper in color with a small, rocky, off-white head that diminished slowly. Clear. Sparkling. Very sweet flavor. Tasted of floral hops, brown sugar, and a bit of grapefruit. Medium body. Average texture. Average carbonation. Sweet hop finish. 9.9%abv very well hidden. A bit too sweet. doublebock (197), USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 24, 2007 Clear brown color with minimal white foam. Strong hoppy aroma with coriander and sweety honey. Nutty hoppiness with mellow bite. Not tasting the brown sugar. More like an imperial IPA than a barleywine Aurelius (2654), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 16, 2007 Big hoppy, lightly floral, boozy malt aroma. Medium PA coloring, with an almost yellow cream-colored head. Nice zing to it - tangy, woody, slightly candied. Medium mouth. The alcohol is masked pretty well - not too much hopping or syrupy sweetness. So many high ABV brews come off as if you were sucking on a bottle of Pine Sol cough syrup. That said, the finish is prominently piney and grapefruity, with a mellow IPA cast. Very good, but one a night is fine by me. Market Square Liquors. dchmela (1458), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 16, 2007 Pours out a nice copper caramel color with a thick slightly off white head. Hop, pine, grapefruit, and brown sugar aroma, kind of a thick smell (if you can smell "thick"). Smooth malt taste, lot of dark sugar, nicely balanced. OK, maybe a touch to much sugar, but I like it. Hoppy up front, malty in the middle, and then ends slightly sweet with a hop bitterness on the back of the tongue. Now that I am at the end of the glass, sneaky alcohol. You have been warned. fattibobatti (246), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Nov 15, 2007 ABC liquors Tallahassee , 12 oz bottle. this is the kinda barley wine you could give to someone to introduce them to the style. it smooth and sweet, not powerful in hops and extremely deceptive in alcohol. the aroma is pine and fresh sugar cane. the taste reminds me of biting into a fresh sugar cane stalk, very sweet but plant like. gives to a very fresh clean taste. mild earthy hops come in to finish the beer off leaving a bitter lingering sugar cane flavor. like i said before, the alcohol is hidden so well i would swear its a 5%. redlight (1496), Winter Park, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 13, 2007 Huge caramel nose, with hints of citrus and a sliight piney nose. Pours a cloudy amber, oranger with a thin white head. STRONG brown sugar flavor, malty, a little yeat, with a powerful spice. This does not taste like a 9.9% beer!!!! So smooth! Good beer! bhensonb (4371), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 12, 2007 Great grapefruit aroma. Reddish amber color with a decent off-white head. Full bodied with near chewy carbonation. The flavor is brown sugar, grapefruit, kiwi, caramel, and other stuff. The finish is sweet until the sugar washes away. Then there is still brown sugar/caramel flavor and well balanced hop. The alcohol hardly seems noticeable (til it hits the brain). Something to look forward to each year. mystiksc (46), los angeles, California, USA

Sweet flavor. Brown shugga, green apple, grapefruit, caramel and just the perfect amount of hops. Very tasty brew. Amazingly drinkable for 9.9% abv. You can’t beat the price either! Only 6.99$ for a 6 pack. *Update : Tried another 12oz. Unfortunately this bottle did not taste the same even though it came from the same 6 pack. This one had a very light flavor of grapefruit and hops. No brown shugga taste. The taste was more bland. I will try another one later. I hope it was just from a bad batch because I loved the first one.
