Commercial Description:
An aborted batch of their Old Gnarleywine ended up tasting nearly as good as that they were hoping for, so they bottled it. God bless capitalism. OG 1.100 IBU 51.1

Huge caramel nose, with hints of citrus and a sliight piney nose. Pours a cloudy amber, oranger with a thin white head. STRONG brown sugar flavor, malty, a little yeat, with a powerful spice. This does not taste like a 9.9% beer!!!! So smooth! Good beer!

Great grapefruit aroma. Reddish amber color with a decent off-white head. Full bodied with near chewy carbonation. The flavor is brown sugar, grapefruit, kiwi, caramel, and other stuff. The finish is sweet until the sugar washes away. Then there is still brown sugar/caramel flavor and well balanced hop. The alcohol hardly seems noticeable (til it hits the brain). Something to look forward to each year.

Nice dark amber pour. Beautiful lacing. Sweet flavor. Brown shugga, green apple, grapefruit, caramel and just the perfect amount of hops. Very tasty brew. Amazingly drinkable for 9.9% abv. You can’t beat the price either! Only 6.99$ for a 6 pack. *Update : Tried another 12oz. Unfortunately this bottle did not taste the same even though it came from the same 6 pack. This one had a very light flavor of grapefruit and hops. No brown shugga taste. The taste was more bland. I will try another one later. I hope it was just from a bad batch because I loved the first one.

Copper with big, foamy tan head / Hop and brown sugar nose / Medium body, very dry with good, bitter finish / Flavors of brown sugar, pineapple, grapefruit, and dry pine / Another superb strong ale from Lagunitas. 2008 Batch.

Good Grief, does this brewery make a bad beer? Poured with a nice lacy head and a very light amer color. There is a slight hint of hops with a sweet malty flavor. If this was a mistake, then they should make more. Fantastic beer.

On tap maybe a year ago at Clark St. Ale House, Chicago. Very sweet and alcoholy-- but not over the top. Really enjoyed the brown suger flavor-- it was a great beer on a cold winter evening. Didn’t realize this was a limited release-- should have had a 2nd glass! On tap at Map Room, Chicago. Didn’t even taste like the same beer as last year. I thought the bartender poured me the wrong beer-- it tasted more like an ESB. Didn’t detect much of the brown sugar flavor that was so sominant last year. Maybe it’s just me-- but this beer was thin and bitter-- didn’t even taste like the same beer. Very disappointing. On tap Small Bar- Division, Chicago. Just as disappointing as at Map Room. I swear this is not the same liquid brown sugar beer that I had last year. Maybe Chicago got some bad kegs or something, but this year’s beer is a cheap clone-- you’ve been warned!

Thank god for brewing mistakes, I am currently aging some of this and I suspect it should do extremely well considering its high alcohol content, barley style characheristics, and overall dankness. Almost tastier in bottle than on tap. Unique flavor in this beer and yu can almost tatste the brown shugga

Amber pour, small white head. Sweet sugary aroma. Flavor is sweet, brown sugar, candi sugar, some berries and a big caramel sweetness. A roasted touch in the aftertaste with a perfurmy sweetness.
