Commercial Description:
An aborted batch of their Old Gnarleywine ended up tasting nearly as good as that they were hoping for, so they bottled it. God bless capitalism. OG 1.100 IBU 51.1

From the 22oz bomber; this poured an orange-tinted amber with a thin but prominately standing cover of thin foam. Light sugary aroma. The sweet brown sugar (surprise?) flavor was mellow -- I’d never peg this for an almost 10% ABV beer. This drinks very easily, only slightly warming with a nice full but casual Barleywine-like burn, with a slight hoppy tingle to finish it. Good. (#2796, 4/14/2007)

(Bottle 65 cl) Courtesy of sk8viking. Clear, amber golden with an off-white head. Sweetish aroma of caramel and overripe fruit. Full in body with sweet accents of caramel - somewhat medicinal. The finish is dry. 060407

Pours a golden orange brown with quite the voluminous head of puffy yellow-tan. Laces sporadically. Aromas of sticky ganja and pine oils. Flavors coat the palate with tacky pine, dark brown sugar, leafy hops, and sticky caramel candy. A sweet beer to say the least. Sticky, oily, and coating. A touch of warmth from the ABV, but for the most part it is dangerously absent. A drinkable barleywine.

thanks to Styles for the bomber. lots and lotsa caramel in the nose on top of a brown pour with some lace. flavor is more caramel with some, not a lot, of brown shugga. also got some flavors of breakfast cereal. medium bodied and not a lot of carbonation. not as hoppy as a lot of BW’s, but very enjoyable nonetheless.

Aromas of pine and citrus with cookie dough. I was surprised by the hop aroma for a "barely wine". A very good balance between brown sugga, caramel and hops. The alcohol is hardly noticeable. Finishes sticky sweet.

12oz bottle-pours a retaining foamy light tan head that laces and dark copper color. Aroma is medium malt-sweet/caramel, hops. Taste is balanced medium malt-sweet/caramel, hops-bitterness which keeps the sweetness under control. Alcohol. A bit raw but nice.

Amber colour with a small beige head. Malty, caramel sweet aroma with hoppy and fruity notes. Malty, caramel and alcohol sweet flavour. Light dry and hoppy finish with notes of sweet malts.
