Nose of sweet malts and hops. Flavor is quite sweet, smacking of caramel, molasses and brown sugar. Very heavy mouthfeel. Lingering sweet and robust aftertaste. GAManiac (1188), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Pours a deep, clear reddish amber with a small rocky off-white head. There is very good retention and lacing.
The aroma is heavier on the citrus hops than I was expecting and that’s a good thing. There is a caramel malt and molasses sweetness in the nose that balances the hops very well.
The taste follows the aroma but seems to be a bit better integrated as the early citrus hop kick seems to be perfectly balanced with the big caramel malt and toffee backbone. The finish is actually a bit piny with a resinous bitterness through the aftertaste.
The mouthfeel is medium bodied with good carbonation and just sticks on the palate with both hops and sugary sweetness.
This one has the typical Lagunitas hop profile but the additional sweetness of the malts and sugar seem to do wonders for this one. Very good stuff. Teege (121), Orlando, Florida, USA

Not my favorite from Lagunitas, for whom I have a lot of respect, but still very nice. Pours a nice red/amber color. The nose is fairly hoppy. In fact this is a pretty hoppy beer despite its name, but what do you expect from Lagunitas? The brown sugar is definitely present in the flavor but the hops keep it from being overwhelmingly sweet. kassner (463), Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 12, 2009 This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a small sized head of foamy fine to large sized bubbles that were and left behind a transparent very softly carbonated copper brown colored body. The mild aroma was brown malt and sweet. The mouth feel was very tingly at the start and at the finish. The nice strong ale flavor contained notes of malt hops and was semi-sweet. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again. nickd717 (1385), Palo Alto, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 22, 2009 Bottle from BevMo. Clear medium-dark brown in color with a small off-white head. Aroma is brown sugar, sweet malt, caramel, and spices. Flavor is lots of brown sugar (surprised?), caramel, malt, dark fruit, and spices. Palate smooth and syrupy with low carbonation. Pretty good overall.
