High octane beer with noticeable alcohol, sweet but not syrupy, spicy, fruity, bitter but not chalky, powdery head, atop deep red ruby translucence. Like velvet in the mouth. seandwyer (10), USA

Very nice head with tiny bubbles like a pancake that needs to be flipped. Beautiful chestnut in color. Flavor is incredible very hoppy with brown sugar to boot. Thick mouthfeel and delicious. Now THIS is a beer! Thanks to the Derek (The Fat Man) for the sample. lunaticharness (183), Roseville, Michigan, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Aug 4, 2003 i drove up to the brewery today and took their tour - awesome people and good place - after tasting some of their beers i inquired about the brown shugga and they said they had a partial case a guy sent back and gave me a couple 22's on the way out... i dont know if anyone from the brewery checks this but thanks alot! sweet sugary, piney, caramel aroma, nice fat head that turns into a ring and a frost like layer of head, nice ruby garnett color, moderately warm at tasting time, its sweet initially and then it gets bitter as it hits the back of the tongue and then sweetens up a bit to level it all out, a bit of a bitter aftertaste, and earthy note right before the after taste if that makes any sense... Sweet, hoppy flavor with a smooth, slightly tart finish. Aftertaste is hops, caramel, candy, and pine. Loved this one, one of my all time favorites! georgekappus (296), Brookfield, Connecticut, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 6, 2007 Pours a deep amber hue. The aroma is a sweet blend of molasses, honey and citrus. The taste is definitely a mix of honey sweetness and malty alcohol. You can sense the alcohol as it goes down the throat. jcweaver (65), VA Beach, Virginia, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Apr 7, 2008 I love this beer! Pours a nice red copper color with a medium head out of a 12oz bottle. Has an aroma of brown sugar and honey with a little bit of hops. The initial flavor is sweet and clean, tasting of brown sugar, molasses and honey. Finishs with a nice, tart, hoppy flavor. Has a lingering bitterness that perfectly balances the high alcohol content. A great beer.
