Pours clear dark brown tan head. Coffee and cocoa aroma. The flavor follows the aroma. I expected more coffee. Big for a stout, light for an Imperial Stout.

Bottle. My first Lagunitas brew. A dark/reddish brown, like coffee with a small tan head, light carbonation, and loads of lacing. Aroma of coffee with sugar, and just a dash of cream. Flavor is pretty rich for the body being on the thin side, flavors of coffee, sugar, toffee, and hints at chocolate, I detected little hops or any of the higher alcohol content, smooth creamy mouthfeel with a sweet coffee aftertaste, very nice but I would have liked a touch more coffee type bitterness. A very drinkable brew despite being 8.3% ABV, I picked up this bomber for under $5 a very good value IMO,

Dear Lagunitas, I love you guys. Not in that Brokeback Mountain sort of way, I’d say its more similar to that kind of love I have for Jon Lovitz after hearing he knocked out Andy Dick. I cant help but think if the bottle price was higher than $3.99 and it was a more limited production then the reviews would score it much higher. Pour resembles a fresh pot of coffee with a nice short head. Great lacing throughout the glass. Perfect amount of coffee flavoring. The alcohol is hidden perfectly, Rich in flavor like an RIS, but smooth and drinkable like a standard american stout. I think this is a great offering and I look forward to spending many heterosexual nights bromancing this fine piece of ale.

Picked up at Five Points Bottle Shop in Athens, Georgia. Decent black appearance. Nothing special with the pour or head. Average looking stout. Black opaque color. Chocolate and cappuccino is all I have to say about the aroma. Fairly pungent beer. Can’t believe it was this pungent. Easy for the nose to pick up. Nice chocolate and coffee taste. A little too sweet for me. Not really much to balance this out i.e. hops or anything. A fairly decent in your face type of coffee, cappuccino, and chocolate taste. Smooth texture. My only problem is that it is too sweet. Not enough wood or hop flavors to balance it out. Pretty good stout, just too sweet for me, but not bad either.

Bottle. khaki creamy head (quickly and almost fully dissapating) into black body. actually reminds me of a strong brown ale...aromas of moderate malts, coffee, cocoa powder, and some vanilla. flavors are initially lightly bitter-sweet into light to moderate bitter. lively carbonation, soft mouthfeel with a moderate finish duration. okay.

2008 bottle, poured into a pint glass. Pours dark chestnut brown with a very small tan head that recedes slowly to a collar and leaves very little lacing. The aroma is dark chocolate malts, slightly roasted, with the espresso coming in on top. It’s got plenty of sweetness in the nose with vanilla especially which balances the bitterness of the espresso fairly well. The taste continues the theme of espresso bitterness balancing out the dark chocolate malts and vanilla sweetness. There are also some citrus hops thrown in the mix which don’t exactly fit in but it’s not too intrusive. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with soft carbonation and there is a bitterness from both the espresso and hops that come through in the finish. This is a big roasted coffee-bomb of a stout that is certainly not the most drinkable stout, especially for the relatively low ABV. Nonetheless, it’s a good stout.

Pours very dark brown with light tan head. Aromas of coffee, chocolate and roasted malts. Sweet coffee and chocolate flavors. Medium to full body with moderate carbonation. I enjoyed this more than I was expecting.
