JCastner (45), New York, USA Sep 5, 2008 Pours a jet black with little head. Aroma is of chocolate, toffee, vanilla, brown sugar and roasted coffee beans. Heavy mouthfeel. Taste is of strong coffee with little bitterness in the finish. I’d like to see some stronger hop characteristics with this one. This is quite one dimensional. It’s not one of my favorites.
penguinjive7 (20), Buffalo, New York, USA Nov 20, 2008 Poured from a bottle into pint-sized glass: almost black with dark mahogany hints at the edges. About a thumb’s worth of off-white head with a fair amount of lacing throughout.
Smells of roasted coffee beans with a hint of dark chocolate.
Taste is how a stout should taste! The boldness of the coffee bean and chocolate flavor is not overcast by the alcohol. As it warms, the sweetness of brown sugar begins to come through in ernest. The hops seemed to speak very little.
Drinkability was exquisite. The high alcohol level was almost undetectable over the rich roasted malty goodness. Definitely a sipping beer that you never want to run out of.
Reviewed on: 01-21-2007 NobleSquirrel (747), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 20, 2008 Bottle. Pours a deep brown/black. Rather sweet and somewhat acidic. Sticky and different. Not a lot of coffee, more like a coffee candy or latte. Not too bad, but nothing great. Okay. Trev (586), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA Nov 17, 2008 poured a dark brown colour with a tan head.
Creamy coffee and light fruity alc aroma.
Flavour was cappuccino coffee and light milky chocolate finish.
tourette (186), San Francisco, California, USA Nov 2, 2008 Dark and rich stout, with overwhelming coffee and cream flavors. I really did love the taste, but the mouthfeel was a little sticky and strange. Definitely something I’ll purchase again though. CelticBrew (535), The Crystal Coast, North Carolina, USA Nov 1, 2008 Poured from bomber dark brown, nearly black, little to no foamy head. Aroma of coffee, chocolates, hops and a bit of vanilla. Flavour much of the same, rich texture, solid yet liquidly sticky. Yes, definatley a stout, however somewhat hybrid, well made beer. perfect for cold nights, sitting out back with fire and sausages. Looking down at wifes nice apple ass and knowing that its yers to tap. Perhaps not an ’imperial’ beer, but very well made, quite drinkable.
