The flavor is sweet and rich. Tastes like fruit. Doesn’t taste like alcohol at all to be called an American strong ale. A decent beer though emacgee (1888), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 30, 2008 Pours a dark copper with a two finger creamy yellow head. The nose is heavy on the malt, sweet, caramel, candy, fruity, some citrusy hops, smells like an english BW. The flavor is rich, sweet and malty, light grapefruit rind, earthy malt character, slightly peaty. Mouthfeel could be beefed up and the alcohol shows slightly. Drinkable. mar (1883), Dallas, Texas, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 28, 2008 amber, ruby pour with a thin cream head that dissipates fairly fast. light citrus hop scent along with some figs and malts. good thickness on the palate with a smooth citrus hop bite and a nice malty finish. ericandersnavy (1067), crossroads, Texas, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 28, 2008 bottle picked up from wine squared in denton, tx. poured a copper color with a long lasting frothy off white head. aroma of bread malt, floral essence and perfume. flavor was a little lacking. some malt, bread, and what seems to be a metal type bitter. also a touch on the watery side. not sure why it is an american strong ale. afireinside96 (837), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Aug 26, 2008 12oz bottle served in an English pint glass. Copper dolor body topped off-white head. Smells of sweet bready malt, maybe a hint of diacetyl. Not really much to the flavor, some dough, some sharp metallic notes, earth, tea. It does leave some really nice lacing. Should probably go in the amber ale category instead of American strong. Rather bland. steview (902), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 26, 2008 hint of citrus in the buttery bread aroma; looks like a decent ale not an american strong ale--i don’t get it; light, but with a good amount of malt like advertised; one of those stronger regular ales out there proving to be nothing special, but this wouldn’t even qualify as a go-to--too heavy actually; meh--worth a try. kidmartinek (985), austin, Texas, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 24, 2008 Dark amber in color, small head that disappears quickly and draws down clean without lacing. Aroma of rich malt, a hint of caramel. Flavor starts bitter from the hops and moves to rich full flavored malt that just about stays under going over the top.The ale would be too sweet but it has hops to balance it out, so it’s actually good. There are some woodtones and alcohol in the flavor, a little bourbon like, but very mild, so this adds to the appeal of this brew. The body is heavy so i can’t see not getting full after only a couple of these. Lagunitasfan (443), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 24, 2008 Light and clear. Nice color. Bright taste without too much there. Did a good job of cleansing the palate after drinking some serious IPAs. It’s got good flavor, but not strong enough to offend anyone. Probably a good beer to give to the folks who don’t know much about good beer, because it’s easily accessable. It’s different from the mainstream without being harsh.
