Pours a hazy copper with melon highlights. The minimal off-white frothy head leaves no lace. The flavor is mostly malt, and pretty nutty. Decent complexity and balance, but pretty neutral stuff that is hard to pin down. The light body is creamy and lively with a dry feel to the finish. I would definitely not classify this as an american strong ale as listed on this site. stammmc (1), USA does not count | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 30, 2007 This is becoming a "go to" beer for me. I have it at home and ordered one at Shaw’s in Chicago - the waiter brought it to me and presented it to me cradled like a wine bottle before opening it. A superbly balanced malt vs. hop combination with the slightest warming feel. Angeloregon (2025), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 27, 2007 Big fish in a big pond. Maybe this beer was once the Kronik, but in the 21st Century in the NW, it is very good but not exceptional. Deep amber body, recognizable head that kept fighting til the end. Typically solid NoCal hop beer. Very enjoyable any time of the year. smcd (366), USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 24, 2007 All right, you’ve just gotta love the name, right? And the boys love it when you order it as Kronik ... the way it should be! Scary, this is malty product ... scary because does Lagunitas do anything without hops? It packs a bit of a whollop if you’re not careful too, watch out for the alcohol ... it isn’t perceptible ... barley even as warming until its far too late. Medium-full bodied, deep copper and a full malty nose. Willin8 (55), Massapequa, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 23, 2007 As others have pointed out, this one doesn’t have an overtly imposing nose or flavor but the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. It’s smells malty and somewhat undefined and the flavor has the same characteristics. However, it is very, very smooth and drinkable. It reminds me of the malt backbone aspect of Dogfish Head Burton Baton. The 7.7%abv is barely noticeable until you feel the inebriating effects of it. At this moment, this is my favorite ’session’ brew. trokini (1027), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 21, 2007 Clear copper pour with off-white head. Caramel, cinammon, some dried fruit make up the nose. Astringent taste with hops and grain up front, which is really out of place for a Lagunitas product. Malty middle with caramel flavors that leads to the more familiar Lagunitas sweetness in the back. Tasty beer. LilKem (1210), Marietta, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 20, 2007 copper and tan head. hops, carmel, dried tropical fruit, pine notes, and a tad twinge of grainy flavors. flavor is much the same but a little hint of rust. didn’t notice the alcohol much but maybe they hid it so as not to have to censor themselves. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Mar 18, 2007 Ehh... copper pour with a moderate head, average lacing and retention. Aroma is aged hops with notes of caramel and a hint of fruits. Flavor brings this, fairly light body but came off as bland. Alcohol hidden really well, I never woulda guessed.
