| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Feb 17, 2009 Deep dark brown coloured body with caramel and ruby highlights and a perfect sized tan head. Aroma of cherries, cola, chocolate, raisins, prunes, bubble gum and some nice sour grapes. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong assertive dark chocolate malt then showing alcohol, spicey bitterness and a mild amount of nuts. Aftertaste shows some sweetness, but mostly bittered from the chocolate and coffee. Overall, a good and interesting beer - not amazing, but good to try. Plus, for the price, you can’t beat it! This is the way all large bottles should be - affordable for everyone ($4 on East Coast)! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Tyson’s (Falls Church) Corner, Virginia on 13-February-2009, sampled a few days later on 17-February-2009 at home in Washington. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 16, 2009 22oz bottle. Dark brown almost black pour with an off white head. Dark fruity aroma, lots of thich rich malts. More dark sweet maltyness, mollasses, this is more like an imperial than a regular stout, good stuff. DTM (541), Winters, California, USA

Very malty brew with flavors of chocolate and roasted malts. Although its labeled as a stout tastes like another impressive strong ale from Lagunitas. jimmack34 (570), Lancaster, Ohio, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 15, 2009 22oz Bottle... Poured opaque -- almost black -- but a little brown with a tiny, light brown head that faded immediately. Aroma of licorice, chocolate and roasted notes. Strong coffee flavors with a roasted bitterness. Pepper was subtle and unobtrusive. Sonicdescent (381), Donora, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Feb 14, 2009 Updated: Sep 12, 2009Frank Zappa is a hero to me. What scared me about a beer line authorized by his trust though is that Frank was pretty adamantly against drinking. This beer however was ok, very unique but something off putting about the mix of fruits and spices. I probably would avoid this one.
UPDATE: As I sit here with a second bottle, I struggle to figure what I found so odd the first time around, as this is a run of the mill imperial stout, nothing more, nothing less.
