| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 12, 2009 Pours opaque brown/black with tan head. Chocolate, coffee, caramel aroma. Malty, chocolate, drying finish. Perhaps not as much malt as some imperials but still a good pint. bubbleflubber (900), Collinsville, Virginia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 9, 2009 Pours the deepest mahogany, almost black opaque with ruby fringes... a nice dense tan head ensues. The nose is of sweet dark fruits and chocolate.... Roasted chocolate and toasty caramel mix with dark esters. Hints of roasted bitters amongst tobacco balance the finish well. Lots of chocolate essence afterward. For an Impy Stout, the complex texture isn’t quite where the ABV suggests. Still a round mouthfeel with subtly-integrated carbonation, it provides an active mouthfeel that contains a bit more zest than the traditional Impy Stout. Not bad at all, just an interesting take on one of my favorite genres. Cavie (1503), Fort Worth, Texas, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Oct 9, 2009 Dark dark brown pour. Similar to a porter in nature. Scents of sweet bread and cocoa beans. Taste is sweet and very smooth. Flavorful with some bitter finish as well as an unsettling foulness. That being said, it’s still ok and drinkable. Fratto (760), Arlington, Texas, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 8, 2009 Bottle thanks to Cavie. Great looking black pour with red highlights and an off-white head. Chocolate and a little hops on the aroma. Taste is full with a lot of malts, caramel, and chocolate. Aftertaste has a little alcohol with plenty of chocolate. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 8, 2009 22 oz bottle. Pours almost black with a bubbly tan head. Nose is vanilla, berries, chocolate. Taste is chocolate, vanilla, mild coffee, raspberries, prunes, spices..i think nutmeg perhaps? Body is medium, carbonation is moderate. A decent and unique spicy Impy. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 6, 2009 Beer pours black with a mostly dissipating tan colored head. Aromas of chocolate, alcohol, and pepper. Flavor is likewise, chocolate, pepper, and a bit of dark fruit. I agree with others that this is not the most flavorful impy stout, but it is good beer nonethesess, especially when factoring in price. MesandSim (5955), London, Greater London, England
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 3, 2009 A Mes rate. Bottle BIG thanks to the legend that is HogTownHarry As I drink this I’m listening to Roxy & Elsewhere. Just thought you should know that. As a result I’m struggling to pay attention to the beer but I’ll try my best. "I need a little more cheapness please..." Ruby black body "I am not a crook" with a good beige head. "I I I I just can’t believe, you are such a fool" Rich malt, lots of chocolate, some bread and some warming alcohol. "Well I’m about to get sick, from watchin’ my tv" chewy and fruity, plenty of boozy goodness, maybe a little too much malt but who cares really when the music is this good? "There’s no way to delay that trouble comin’ everyday"
Love Zappa so much, love Lagunitas for doing these beers. 17thfloor (1507), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 3, 2009 [rated 2/17/09] Pours a dark murky thinner brown with a sticky big bubbly tan head 3.5. Smells like a brown ale, sticky molasses and chocolate with notes of dark roast and chocolate. Tastes lighter than a stout too, more like a brown ale, sugary molasses, burnt bitter coffee, lightly buttery. Thinner sugary body, a little bit gritty.
