Dark pour with no head. Nice hop and malt aroma, with some pungency. Sweet molasses malt flavor dominates, with a nice sprinkling of spicy hops. A touch of tobacco and coffee flavor too. A fine rich ale. I did not realize it was a stout. tgncc (836), Bellmore, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 25, 2009 Aroma is malty, chocolatey. The appearance is a jet black, slight brown color on the edges. Decent size tan head. The flavor was caramel andchocolate maltyness, with a very slight spicyness, probably from the peppercorns. Slight spicyness allows for a decent finish. Decent beer overall. For a stout, of which I am a fan, this was far from the best. darn1207 (587), Tallahassee, Florida, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Jan 24, 2009 Just picked this up the other day from the package store, and opened it up today with my chili. Sampled it before the chili of course! I know some folks around here frown on rating beers with food. Anyway, pours a pitch black colour with a reddish tint near the bottom Head is tall adn creamy light brown colour. Aroma is strong with smokey and alcohol fumes, and some oak as well. Mouthfeel is very creamy and soft. Taste is awesome, packed full of burnt toast, dark roasted malts and wood. A slight, soft spicey finish as well. Exactly what i like in an imp stout. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 24, 2009 Deep black beer with a thin amber coloured head. Aroma is lightly peppery and a little bit spicy over a lightly chocolatey base. The aroma is surprisingly light, considering the intensity of the flavour. Nice sweet chocolate syrup initially over a soft toffeeish/caramelly backnote. A hint of vanilla on the back. Softly sweet but quite full-bodied. Lingering coffee and roastiness. These guys should do more stouts, because this one is pretty damn tasty! hopscotch (5511), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 24, 2009 Bottle... This beer rocks!... Pours so dark that it only reveals its true crimson hue when held up to light. Small, creamy, beige head. Fantastic retention. Smells a good bit like Southern Tier’s Imperial Choklat; tons of cocoa and chocolate with a little caramel. Medium to full-bodied with a lightly creamy mouthfeel and faint carbonation. Leans on the sweet side of balance. Very chocolaty; some caramel; lots of residual sugar; enough bitterness to provide just a semblance of balance. Lengthy, sweet, chocolaty finish. Kudos to scraff for sharing this at my 40th birthday party in Morgantown, WV! djd07 (751), Houston, Texas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jan 24, 2009 Bomber. Pours a dark brown with a paper thin light tan head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is a faint roasted malt with raisin and grain. The taste is a spicy pepper with chocolate and burnt caramel. A complex stout from Lagunitas.
