Large white head leaving some fair lace rests above a clear gold pour. Terrific hoppy aroma of citrus and pine compliments a fresh grain foundation. Medium body with some astringency and light carbonation. Nice malty base with some toffee and caramel flavors that is quickly replaced by grapefruit bitterness for a good balance. thornecb (1791), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 23, 2006 Pours bright hazy gold into a snifter. Bright micro head quickly recedes to spot surface and hug rim. Pine, resin and orange aromas. Bitter front to back with distinctive orange. Not a hint of malt in this one. Lasting bitter finish. blankboy (3212), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Pours a clear golden-orange with a good size semi-lasting white head. Awesome aroma of citrus and piney hops backed by sweet malt -- I love it. Flavour’s quite hoppy with a nice amount of sweet malt, spices and a nice bitter finish. Medium bodied. A nice surprise, this is a very pleasant, flavourful and well-balanced IPA. trokini (1027), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 23, 2006 Pours clear gold-orange with a decent white head. Aroma is pine and hops with some oranges. The taste is very crisp; hops, resin, grass, and only a bit of the standard Lagunitas sweet malts. Good hop flavor, but without the bite. Enjoyable, but I really expected more. mjg74 (1997), La Mesa, California, USA

Sweet mandarin orange-like citric hoppiness. Nice hop bitterness up front. A sort of sweet backbone to this brew. Full flavored and pretty interesting. Enjoyable. Aroma is very citrusy with lots of orange and lemon along with hints of pine and cleaner. Pours a transparent orange with a small white head. Mild orange, orange peel, and what I would describe as orange sherbet. Mild grapefruit hop finish. Well balanced, but a tad light overall. moejuck (1165), Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 21, 2006 How can you resist singing "freak out!" everytime this beer is mentioned? You can’t! The pour is very light golden color with a nice head that leaves good lacing. The aroma is a good flowery hop aroma with some spiciness to it. The palate is oily and light. This beer has a very strong hop presence and bite. There is a definite spicey taste on the tongue as well. Jabswitch (212), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA

I like harsh bitterness in an IPA and this one certainly did not have that characteristic. It was not a bad brew by any means. But it was a little too smooth. I like the Two-Hearted Ale, Red’s Rye type of kick in this genre of beer.
