Lagunitas Freak Out

Mega thanks to Droopy49 for grabbing two bottles for me. Being a huge Frank Zappa fan, I really was only concerned about having the bottle. Pours a goldenish amber with a fluffy off white head, spotty lacing. Grapefruit hop aroma, with some faint leafiness. Lively mouthfeel. The initial flavor is grapefruity, grassy, bitter, with toasty and european like maltiness hiding in the back. Dry and peppery bitter finish. The spiciness lingers at the back of the mouth. Not too bad, but not my ideal IPA. But thanks to Lagunitas for paying tribute to a great musical icon.

Pours from the Frank Zappa bottle to a hazy, orange-red with thick white head that lasts throughout the entire drink and leaves excellent lacing. The aroma was very strongly citrus, mostly of grapefruit, and was very evident the for the whole beer. Flavor was some of the strongest grapefruit I have ever tasted in a beer, but it was excellently blended with the hops and alcohol to create a great taste. Palate was a bit dry and sour at the same time, and was a great way to finish off this excellent beer. Too bad it is a one-time-only release.

Pours a clear golden color with a thin white head. Aroma is of caramel, floral and pine hops and citrus. Aroma is pretty much the same with a decent bitter finish. Another delicious brew from Lagunitas

Bottle: Clear dark gold with white head and sticky lacing. Super hoppy aromas of junipers and a bag of fresh hops. The taste is similar - junipers, yellow grapefruit rind and a monster amount of bitter. The full bodied beverage is a pleasure to drink for those who love West coast over-hopped malt beverages.

Bottle: Golden color, light white head and sticky nice lacing. Nose of bright fresh citric hops, snappy and citrusy. The flavor is dry, light malts, lots of bitterness (unbalanced in malt). A bit of resinous caramel and sweet fruit juice. The finish is nice and delayed, good beer. Strong alcohol and wood notes in the tail.

this is my first rating in awhile...and boy am i behind. looks like clover honey with virtually no head. aroma is creamy hops and maybe a bit of veggie/spice ale. this tastes like a decently hoped and citrusy west coast ipa...it also has a fair amount of sweetness and vanilla...almost as if some belgian candi sugar was added. not too bad. im back.

22oz. bottle. Light orange with a small rocky white head. Candied citrus hop aromatics, some mildly cloying malty sweetness underneath. Mango, lemongrass hop flavors backed by an unassertive pale malt character. Residual grassiness and a mild bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel is a thick medium, somewhat dry.

Tap, Firkin. Pours yellow and hazy with a small head. Aromas of citrus, resins and hops. Flavors dominated by hops bittreness and a hint of grapefruit. Long lasting bitterness. One of the more intense IPAs.
