kimcgolf (700), Dacula, Georgia, USA Oct 5, 2006 Pours from the Frank Zappa bottle to a hazy, orange-red with thick white head that lasts throughout the entire drink and leaves excellent lacing. The aroma was very strongly citrus, mostly of grapefruit, and was very evident the for the whole beer. Flavor was some of the strongest grapefruit I have ever tasted in a beer, but it was excellently blended with the hops and alcohol to create a great taste. Palate was a bit dry and sour at the same time, and was a great way to finish off this excellent beer. Too bad it is a one-time-only release.
Beardface (344), Eugene, Oregon, USA Dec 25, 2008 Very well balanced brew with a huge citrus hop smell and taste but a decided caramel malt backdrop as well. The best of the Zappa beers thus far. DavidP (1722), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Dec 15, 2008 Caramelly aroma with light citric hopping. The flavor continues the trend with a dry caramelly background laced with grapefruit-rind bitter hops. Sammy (3287), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 31, 2008 Aged about a year in my basement, found at Belmont Part Supply, Dayton. Smells like an IPA and initially quite hoppy, with a finish of palm/coconut oil. Drinkable, but the coconut oiliness is not my favorite. Medium bodied. Golden yellow with loyal bubbly almost transparent head. Cletus (3602), Connecticut, USA Aug 15, 2008 Cool label! Pours gold with a nice white head. Smells of resin, wildflowers, spicem pepper, earthy. Tastes resiny and caramelly with a finish that is slightly cloying. Decent. jgb9348 (1875), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA Aug 11, 2008 Crisp hazy golden coloured body with a thinnish white head. Aroma of fresh malt, alcohol, strong yeast and a ton of hops - very nice! Full-bodied; Super strong hops show up front with a bunch of alcohol, malt and yeast with apricots the most pungent of the bunch. Aftertaste shows piney and grapefruity hops with a good malt backbone and some yeast to cover it all up. In addition -a full bodied alcoholic flavour. Overall, a very nice beer - more of an Imperial IPA, but a ton of hops show very well! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in San Francisco, CA (4th Ave SOMA location) on 27-October-2008, sampled on 07-August-2008.
