Commercial Description:
This Special Ale is, in reality, a reconstructed exhumation of the very first ale that we ever brewed way, way back, in 1993. Brewed with a big head, a muscular malty thorax, a silky texture & all strung together with a hoppy sweet nerve sack... yum. O.G. 1.072 84.2 IBU

Pours a deep amber with a medium copper & slightly greenish head. I might be imagining the green because the hop aroma is so powerful that it makes me think I’m looking into a brew kettle that just got its first dose of hops. The aroma is a very strong resinous pine and slight citrus. The mouthfeel and flavor are a little on the syrupy side. The hops are heavy and the they overpower the slight cherry grape malt . But the hops are good if a little too far forward. There is more perceived alcohol than is really there. It is a delicious beer that reminds me of Stone Double Bastard. I couldn’t finish off the 6 in one night.

12oz. bottle. Clear chestnut pour supporting a thin light tan head with medium lacing. Sweet caramel and toasted malt aroma. Mildly malty flavor dominated by caramel and toffee with a restrained piney hop profile. Somewhat thin mouthfeel and a medium dry but lingering finish. A good beer but a stronger hop presence would be welcome.

Imperial Red? Mmm, okay. But I’m not the expert thus I dig. Mmm... Yes, "hoppy sweet nerve sack." That and it’s pretty malty and sweet. It has a grapefruit and caramel flavor; pine essence. It’s full. Yeaup.

Bottle, 2008 Pre-GBBF Chris_o Shindig. Orange, bit of white head. Sweet caramel aroma, toasty biscuit, ripe grapefruit. Caramel-sweet flavor, spicy grapefruit hops. A touch sweet for drinking in volume, but very pleasant in a small dose.

Bottle at chris_o’s like the fist of an angry ronnie tasting. Alround rating: Typically american awsome hops, citrus and lychee, pine too, tonnes of caramalt, easy drinking too. Good stuff.

copper red color with some cherry bits to the aroma. A somewhat creamy palate and some decent amount of hops. Good.

Bottle from Beerbiker! Deep red in color with a dense light brown head. Loads of sweet grainy malt aromas along with soaked bread and as in every other Lagunital i’ve had, lots of flowery hops. Sweet caramel and nutty flavor again with plenty of bitterhops. Great!
