It seems they are rarely done well. This was a huge surprise. Smell was nice soft citrus and hops. Taste was citrus, hint of orange rind, soft and distant malt, with a nice hoppy bite. This was nicely balanced and smooth. Well done. after4ever (2822), Brier, Washington, USA

Pours grainy, murky dark brown with a thick, surging, moussy tan head that falls quickly away to nothing. Leaves sheets of bubbly lace on the way down. Big mango tango nose, lots of fruity tropical hop goodness. Medium body, actively tingling carb. Light caramel on the mid-palate, underneath a nice tideflat of pine and plenty of mango, grapefruit, and citric hop tang. Long lingering fruity hop cling of a finish. Great stuff. | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 29, 2007 Strong aroma of grapefruit and caramel, with an enticing woodiness. The color is very red, decent clarity, and a thin yellow head. Medium body, wonderful thistle and grapefruit taste, smoky undertones. Finishes with a most perfectly complimentary bitter hop. The alcohol is felt in the belly not on the palate. Served in a frosted glass and was still superb! Beerlando (2352), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 28, 2007 Clear, dark reddish-amber body. Foamy, off-white head that lasts for quite a while. Sticky ribbons of web-like lace coat almost the entire glass. The aroma shows big, piney, resinous hops over a substantial caramel and toffee malts base. The scent really lets you know you’re in for a big, hoppy, malty experience. The flavor is more of the same. Massive pine hops build on a moderately sweet caramel malt base. There is nothing complicated going on here, but the big flavors that are there are excellent. Smooth, medium-full body. Hardly any astringency. Long, pine resin finish. I can taste this one two hours after drinking it! Damn good beer! thegreenrooster (1842), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 22, 2007 Pour is a dark copper with a large white head. Aroma is amped up hops with a very sweet malt in the backround. Flavor is lots of sweet malts, some caramel and a nice helping of citrus hops. Finish is bitter but smooth. Not the best of its style but decent and again Lagunitas beers are always very affordable. brianjames1 (322), Northridge, California, USA

Aroma is decent, pours a deep amber, taste is very malty wish it had more of a hop taste, not as well balanced as i hoped. Not bad but also not the best. BeerVirgin72 (814), Pataskala, Ohio, USA
