Commercial Description:
Having downed his forth Imperial Stout of theay, the wild eyed charlatan from Voldvostogniaky belched and hollered for the Czarina to enter his chamber and bend herself to his will. The economy was a wreck and revolt was just around the corner. Nicky the Czar dude was off playing soldier like any pale nobleman with a hemorrphagic skin condition would. Such were the final days of the old empire. Reactionary, decadent, sputnik, stroganoff, wierd, and drunk. But even as the proletariat countryside labored under inhuman conditions and a threat of being sent to futile war in the east, they wisely took the time to slam back an Imperial Stout or two. After all, life can be a real "suka", as they say in the old country. Big, black, bourgeois, bolshoy, belligerent, buxom, and scary - this is our version of the chaotic end of an era in a bottle.

Dark brown/red pour. Roasty sweet balanced taste. Much better than I thought it would be...smooth and drinkable.

Dark ruby-brown pour with a light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, sweetness. Flavor is smooth- almost creamy.Nice roasted malt.nice lacing. I am becoming a bigger fan of Lagunitas each time I sample something new.

From a bomber- vintage unknown. Pours a ruby hue dark brown with a fizzy mocha head. Nose- light roast, some molasses and anise. Taste- stewed fruits followed by a chocolate powder dryness. Lacking depth, rather thin body. Minimal roast flavour. High carbonation for the style. Drinkability is decent given the relative simplicity of the brew.

Bottle. Black pour with a medium tan head and less lacing than most impy stouts. Toast, coffee, and soy sauce on the nose. Pretty thin on the palate. Prune juice, chocolate, and an unpleasant sour component. S’ok but I expect more from this brewer.

As the numbers go, I just love this style and this example doesn’t disappoint. Aroma affords a hint of chocolatey/fruity sweetness. Not much head or retention. Flavor is like many an IS that I’ve had; this one has some woody character that I’ve found in other ISes. Finishes full and crisp, a bit woody.

bomber from total wine in norfolk. pours a very dark brown with a thin, tan head and solid lacing. aroma is pretty nice with roasted malts, milk chocolate, toffee, dark fruits, and soy. flavor is very good with big, bitter, dark chocolate notes, roasted malts, molasses, mild coffee, and dried figs with a roasted, malty finish. palate is full bodied and nicely drinkable with high carbonation and a big, warming alcohol presence after the swallow. overall, a solid imperial stout especially for $3.99 a bomber.
