Sweet malty aroma with chocolate and coffee. Flavor is an initial malty rush followed by creamy chocolate, and finishing with a slight espresso kick and a tingling sour tang on the palate. Very smooth. A good beer, just a little weaker than what I expect from an imperial stout. humuloneranger (8), Oregon, USA does not count | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 30, 2007 Stout? Maybe more of an Imperial Red or Amber. Molasses aroma with no dominant hop nose or flavor. A heavy, viscous pour with brown sugar and ginger flavor. The maltiness dominates the 8.2% BV and the 72 IBU’s, making this a very drinkable stout.. A great beer for Autumn! 22 oz. bottle. TampaBeer (194), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Oct 25, 2007 Something is very wrong here. Pours the color and viscosity of coke - I can already tell this will not be a rich and flavorful imperial stout. The flavor is poor, with a unpleasant, sticky after taste. Is this the way this beer was intended to be made?? stevenjw (2), California, USA does not count | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 23, 2007 First rating! Just picked one of these babies up at the grocery store here in San Anselmo, love the Lagunitas IPA, had to try it. 1 pt 6 oz bottle.
Very nice aroma, dark mahogany almost black color, taste is a bit sweet. I imagine a sweet taste is normal for the imperial stouts, and to me the 8.2 % is well hidden. I enjoyed very much, would drink again! Ughsmash (4079), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 17, 2007 Bomber. Poured clear, medium reddish-brown (quite light for the style) with a short cap of beige head sticking around. The aroma picked up lightly-roasted sweeter chocolates, some molasses, and brown sugar.. very sweet overall and missing an enticement and intrigue factor.. quite bland. The flavor had primarily semi-sweet, lightly-roasted chocolates at the core with molassess and dried herbal sticky notes eminating outward.. sweet, lightly warm finish. Medium-bodied with decent balance and creamy carbonation.. very sweet. There really wasn’t anything bad in this one, but nothing to keep my interest either. SpudClampDawg (1027), Jasper, Indiana, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 13, 2007 22 oz bottle: Pours a deep brown with a black core and proper mocha head. The aroma offers soft earth, coffee and chocolate notes, as well as a touch of sweet caramel. The subtle nature continues in the body with the addition of brash coffee, cocoa and nuts. Something about reminds me of a foreign stout. Not a hefty Impy, but balanced and drinkable. Reign (10), Albany, New York, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 13, 2007 A little weak/watery. I’ve come to expect a little more body from a stout. Overall not a bad beer.
Promising aroma. Goes down easy. iam (369), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 13, 2007 Pours mahogany coloured with a big frothy head. Aromas of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. A little thin on the mouthfeel and the flavour is also a little thin but very refreshing.
