Commercial Description:
Having downed his forth Imperial Stout of theay, the wild eyed charlatan from Voldvostogniaky belched and hollered for the Czarina to enter his chamber and bend herself to his will. The economy was a wreck and revolt was just around the corner. Nicky the Czar dude was off playing soldier like any pale nobleman with a hemorrphagic skin condition would. Such were the final days of the old empire. Reactionary, decadent, sputnik, stroganoff, wierd, and drunk. But even as the proletariat countryside labored under inhuman conditions and a threat of being sent to futile war in the east, they wisely took the time to slam back an Imperial Stout or two. After all, life can be a real "suka", as they say in the old country. Big, black, bourgeois, bolshoy, belligerent, buxom, and scary - this is our version of the chaotic end of an era in a bottle.

22 oz bottle. Pours pitch black with a brown head that dissipates quickly. Aroma and flavor of roasted malt, bold coffee notes, and chocolate in the background. Medium mouthfeel with alcohol that is barely noticeable.

Pours big and black like oil, with decennt little head that dissipates quickly. Aroma has lots of hops and chocolate malt. Spicy, chocolate malt, hoppy taste. Got a little thicker as it warms, but not as oily as I thought it might be. The description of the beer is a hoot. Not the greattest Imperial Stout, but a pretty good offering.

Not a bad offering from Lagunitas. It had a nice strong hint of coffee in both aroma and taste. It was a dark black brew with a very thin tan head. While this stout is not exceptional, it is very well brewed and throughly enjoyable for a stout lover. At the price I found it I would consider buying it again. Brown Sugga....your next :-)"

Old rating: Nearly black with red highlights. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, some hoppy brightness. Flavor is dark malt, milk chocolate, and citrusy hops with milk chocolate and a moderate bitterness on the finish. Moderate to full body. Good stuff.

It’s brown/black and transparent with a huge, golden and creamy head. The aroma is light with notes of roasted malt and a bit of licorice. The flavour is surprisingly light with light notes of roasted malt, alcohol, light sweetness, a bit of fruit and a light bitterness. Thank you Tom/After4ever, I agree, this is not what I expected - I’ll listen the next time, bit it’s nice to have tried it… 2329

22oz. bottle. Aroma features some dark, roasty malts along with a faint hop presence, coffee, mild cocoa, red grape and a burnt brown sugary sweetness in the background. Deep, dark brown in color with a slight, fading head. Flavor is largely dominated by the toasted, roasty malt character as well. lightly smoky and bready with some licorice overtones, raisin and faint chocolate, finishing moderately bitter, dry, peppery and gently warming. Palate sees a touch of astringency joined with low effervescence. Body is medium-full. Interesting but lighter-bodied and less complex interpretation of the style.

Appearance: Clear, dark mahogany body with a thin, frothed milk-colored head. Smell: A hopeful scent of roasted malts, chocolate-covered coffee beans, almonds, glazed prunes and a tiny smidgen of spicy hops and alcohol. Taste: This is a circus of chocolate flavors! Armed with plenty of lactic smoothness to round out the roasted flavors. Hints of vanilla beans and nuttiness. Finish is a blend of semi-sweet chocolate and herbaceous hops. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with a milky texture and low carbonation. Drinkability: This is my take: Certainly drinkable and fairly tasty, but this isn’t really what I’d consider an "Imperial" Stout. One thing did jump out at me right from the get-go - the well-hidden 8.2%.

Average stuff. Poured nice and black with little to no head. Aroma is sweet and roasty. Flavor is weak, nothing great but no off flavors is a positive.
