Pours a very deep brown, nearly black, with a moderate light tan head. Pleasant aroma of roasted malt and a touch of coffee. The flavor was again roasted malt with some chocolate and coffee detected as well. The alcohol was very well hidden. A tad thin and pretty mild for an imperial stout, but if I forget about the style and ask myself did I enjoy the beer, the answer is yes. Doctormirk (100), USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 3, 2007 Bottled from our friends at the Chico Natural Foods Store. Nice dark brown tint, slight ray of light passes through the glass. Off white head. Smells of roasty malt, and a bit spicy, high anticipation.. Tastes a bit sweeter than I was anticipating, somewhat like toffee or over caramelized caramel. Bit of alcohol detected. Solid as a beer, ok for an imperial stout. robinvboyer (1443), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 20, 2007 Bottled. A deep red beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of caramel and alcohol. The flavor is sweet with notes of over ripe fruits, alcohol, and caramel, leading to a dry bitter end. Not an Imperial Stout, but still an OK beer. ThomasE (5178), Copenhagen, Denmark

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 14, 2007 22 oz bottle. Dark brown body with a decent beige/off-white head. Aroma is roasted, hoppy and fruity. Flavor is quite powerful at the first sip, chocolate, malt, hop, dry fruit. Somehow there is a certain delicate discreet shy sense of something more here. Difficult to describe, but there is something hidden behind the flavors. A more well balanced beer could make this much more complex. Oakes (8139), Kowloon, Hong Kong
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jan 14, 2007 Fairly dark brown. No head. Pretty lifeless in the glass. The aroma is nutty (almond, peanut), slighty hoppy, slightly roasty. Flavour is light roast, nuts and chocolate. Almost watery in the finish, and certainly is so on a "to style" basis. Really standard, like what you’d expect from a chain brewpub in a second-tier strip mall in a third-tier suburb. Surely Lagunitas can do better than this. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 13, 2007 750 ml. bottle releases a large frothy tan head on top of a deep ruby-black pour. Held up to the light, you can actually see through this. Burtn caramel, licorice, some dark chocolate, and a hint of spiciness in the aroma. Feels a little thin for the style, but no stickiness or oiliness. Carbonation is medium. Malt dominates with a roasted/burnt sweetness and just enough bitterness to take the edge off. Very little hop presence. This seems to be a classic English style, traditional Imperial Stout, as opposed to the more highly hopped and big malt bill version that’s popular with American brewers. Very easy to drink, but not remarkable.
