Aroma is just run of the mill chocolate and coffee, plus something else I couldn’t figure out - sort of like alcohol, sort of like wood, but is this barrel-aged? Whatever the last thing is it wasn’t that appealing. Mouthfeel is smooth but thin for the style I think. Nice fine lacing. Flavor is a bit of roasted slightly burnt coffee and a bit of dark chocolate, plus that third thing that pops up more as it warms. Medium bitter. Just not much going on here. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 13, 2007 thick foamy/creamy medium tan head, blackish brown body and garnet ruby at the edges. aroma is roasted chocolate malt, prune, figs, and a bit of coffee. flavor is roasted chocolate malt, a little hop bitterness, and a bit of coffee in the finish. under-rated, this is a nice session stout. not too complex but enjoyable. nice work for 8.2 abv. faroeviking (6126), BjórtjóðveldiðBjórheimBjórsins, Faroe Islands
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 11, 2007 Bottle. Clear black colour, short light brown head. Aroma of chocolate, good hops, roasted malts and dark fruits. Flavour has bitter-sweet chocolate, raisins and proons, roasted malts, touch of spices, hops, dry finish. the alcohol is not that noticeable. unclemattie (2438), Georgia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Jan 10, 2007 22oz bottle. Very dark black color. no head. aroma of dark roasted malt. Slight flavor of medium coffee. nothing overwhelming. but the palate just seemed too light for my tastes of other Imperial Stouts I have tasted. Just expected a thicker pour. The alcohol was there, just not the syrup I expected. madsberg (5062), Søborg, Denmark
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 9, 2007 Bottled. Reddist brown coloured. Uncleaer. Light brown head. Chocolate, light roast, light alcohol and light herbs in the nose. Quite smooth. Flavour is a bit dusty. Sweets and chocolate. Light roast and coffee. Some light fruits. Is medium bodied. Quite dry. Light roasty bitter end with some sweet notes. Is quite balanced, but lacks a bit power to ring the bells for me. Very drinkable though. Thanks to Degarth for this. f351c4v (408), Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 7, 2007 Pours a very dark brown color with a lasting off-white head. Not a big aroma, lightly roasted and mixed with a freshly opened Hershey bar. Beer is a little thin for an Imperial style, but it adds to its drinkability. Alcohol is also well hidden. A hint of smoke and bittersweet chocolate dominate this beer, but it offers no real complexity. A nice beer, but definitely weak for an Imperial Stout. kimcgolf (835), Dacula, Georgia, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Jan 2, 2007 Not much to this one, especially for an Impy Stout. Poured to a dark brown with ruby tint, medium light-tan head that dissipated quickly and okaty lacing. Aroma showed hints of chocolatey caramel, but even as it warmed, the aroma was not real evident. Likewise, the flavor tried to taste like an Impy, but never quite made it. Mouthfell was very thin bodied, and the 8.2% alcohol never was noticewable, in either the taste or aroma. Aftertaste was mostly watery.
All and all, a disappointing Impy. EithCubes (2170), Indiana, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 31, 2006 Bottle. Malt and sweet milky chocolate nose. Mild fruitiness of the kind found filling chocolate – somewhere between raspberry and cherry. Black pour with lots of ruby seeping through, large and fizzily tan head. Thin mouthfeel with a creamy smooth taste to match the scent, a little chocolate/mocha powder to match an uneven but active bite. Much more of a milk stout than an imperial. A great example of a beer with 70+ IBUs and no bitterness. Solid, if a little rough around the edges, but nothing more.
