Oct 23, 2006 Nice creamy, half inch, light-brown head that fully diminished, fast. Aroma is dark chocolate and strong coffee. Moderately sweet initial flavor. The texture was a bit of a dissapointment; it was quite thin and watery. This beer is listed to 72.45 IBUs. It certainly didn’t smell or taste like that. Overal, this is not a bad impy stout, but not great either.

Oct 14, 2006 Pours a transparent dark mahogany with a thin, wispy-lacing cream-colored head. Mild, lightly sweet caramel and milk chocolate aroma. Body starts fairly sweet and caramely with a touch of piny hops and mildly roasted malt toward a lingering sweet milk chocolate finish. By no means an unpleasant beer, just not as imperial as most imperial stouts.

Oct 5, 2006 Bottle. Pours ruby-tinged dark brown, with a thin light tan head. Aroma is strange for a supposed imperial stout---mostly citrusy hops, with just a hint of caramel and a whiff of alcohol. Flavor is also odd for the style---clean, slightly sweet, with citrus and grassy hops and a bit of chocolate and roasted malt, plus noticeable alcohol. A bit thin. Barely even a stout, let alone an imperial stout. Leaving that aside and judging it on its merits, it’s a pretty good strong ale; quite drinkable, if slightly rough around the edges. As an imperial stout, it’s pretty bad. As a roasty strong ale, it’s pretty decent, apart from the very noticeable alcohol in both the flavor and aroma. My rating is for it as a strong ale, since I don’t really like penalizing for style nonconformity.

Sep 30, 2006 Bomber. Pours a brownish color, almost the shade of bottle glass. Picks up some ebony overtones in the glass when it accumulates and starts to look stoutish. Sudsy, bubbly light tan head. Sweetish nose, otherwise vacant. Roasty, almost chocolatey palate, with a chalky, metallic finish. Almost fizzy. Certainly watery, especially for the style. This is a stout? An imperial stout? Wild deviations from style dictum are always ipso facto a-o.k. with me, but this borders on a lack of truth in advertising. It’s more like an unfinished, misguided attempt than it is an innovation.

Sep 24, 2006 Bottle, served perhaps a little bit too cold. Poured very dark with a small dark head. Aroma of roasted malt, toffee and chocolate. Full in the mouth with a bit of chewiness. It covered all the tastebuds. Quick finish with an tang. Deceptively strong, it didn’t seem like an Imperial stout.

Sep 18, 2006 Updated: Apr 22, 2007Pours near pitch black with a ruby hue and a fully receding tan head. Aroma of toffee, brown sugar, alcohol, and roasted fruits. A bit thinner than I had hoped for, it tasted of sweet burnt chocolate, light roast, and smoke with a peppery wine note as well. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy bodied, and a bit oily. Moderate, but lush carbonation. Enjoyable, but needs more malt to make this truly decadent.
