Aroma is pretty laid back with hints at coffee, chocolate, and hops. Flavor’s not terribly strong, but it’s got a chocolate bitter taste to it. Would be decent for a "regular" stout, but IMO fails a bit at "Imperial" status. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Jan 9, 2006 Aroma is dark chocolate, espresso alcohol and burnt malts. Black with an underwhelming thin mocha head. Bitter fore with some burnt chocolate malt and mild coffee notes and slight stewed raisin notes. On the thin side of even many stouts much less an Imperial. Flavor is decent enough, but it feels off in the palate. jrob21 (1277), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 26, 2005 Clear mahogany color with a large beige head. Mild hop aroma. Malty on the palate, mild roastiness to start. Thin mouthfeel - mild roasted malt to finish. Thin milky texture. Bland for an Imperial Stout...no alcohol evident. Disappointing. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 26, 2005 22oz: Dark brown pour topped by a light brown head that mostly sticks around. A smooth, surprisingly not very hoppy sweet stout that offers typical chocolate and coffee flavors accompanied by juicy grapes, figs and leafy backings. Sweet in mouth, it has a lactic character that tames the roastiness a bit and dull out the deployment. Light-medium body, fair carbonation. I guess my colleagues have made the case clear, it’s a mellow example that more or less serves as a bridge between the macho types and regular stouts. Friendly, but no goosebumps. kujo9 (1078), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 20, 2005 22 oz bomber: Dark brown w/ a lasting beige creamy head. Chocolatey and roasted coffee, caramel, and a bit of raisiny dark fruit aromas. Some toasty malt, but very light, and also some light wood aromas after it warms. Well balanced overall. Chocolate and light roast flavor w/ a hint of burnt espresso. Caramel as well, but missing the dark fruit flavor it had in the aroma. It thins out a bit @ the end. Finish is semi sweet & chocolatey, but the aftertaste is a bit of herbal hop. Low medium carb., a bit thin in body for in imperial (IMHO), alcohol is well hidden. A bit thin in the finish, but overall enjoyable. dirtymike (2018), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 15, 2005 Ruby brown in color with a thin light tan head. Sweet caramel malt, butterscotch aroma. Flavor is sweet with much balance from hops. One dimensional and boring. A very drinkable beer, but an extremely poor representation of a style from a well respected brewery. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 1, 2005 Medium-to-thin pour, settling in as a translucent mahogany concoction with dusty dumpings for the head. Promising aroma accentuated by hops and alcohol, some cocoa beans, roasty malts, milk chocolate, graham crackers and caramel. Flavor comes in loosely, with carbonation and bright semi-sweet chocolate butting heads. More like a robust porter. Dark chocolate cocoa powder and Hershey syrup drone on rhythmically, at times bringing the flavoring around to resemble Symphony chocolate bars with almonds. Slippery and thin body, titillating and active. Bitterness levels (72 IBUs) give it just enough to claim imperial status. Chocolate and hazelnut coffee creamer define the finish.
