Just not what I like to see in a stout. Very malty w/ a touch of some floral hops. Chocalate, hay and dried cherry. More a big porter than a stout, really. I like it but I find myself craving more. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 25, 2005 Dark, dark mahogany with ruby highlights, this is temporarily capped with a yellowish brown head. The aroma is dark caramel malt, roasted barley, coffee, and a touch of chocolate. All carry forward into the taste with the additions of licorice and a light earthy hop bitterness. The finish is bitter and oddly sour. Not bad, but nothing special.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 18, 2005 Black with ruby hues. Bubbly, light tan head. Roasted malt, chocoffee, subtle hops, a bit of licorice, and something familiar yet unnameable-aroma. Same flavor with the same mysterious ingredient racking my brain. Full bodied yet easy drinking. Very good. Drew (2409), Kent, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 18, 2005 Dark, shiny black with a short cocoa powder colored head, good lacing. Aroma was chocolate, dark fruits and malts. It had to warm up a bit before we got a good thick palate - started off kind of vinous. Taste was chocolate, hops, raisins, coffee; finish was dry and roasty. KAggie97 (2469), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 17, 2005 Bottle. Pours a superb onyx, with a subtle head of tan. Aroma is a mix of raisin and chocolate. Flavor follows along these same lines, with a finish of caramel, vanilla, plumb, and a touch of cedar. Mouthfeel is full and pleasant. This is one terrific brew. Another winner from a brewery that is getting more and more of my attention. IndianaRed (1559), Boise, Idaho, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 4, 2005 Bottle pours a clear very dark but not quite opaques black. Very rich creamy tan head and very thick lacing.
Aromas are dark roasted malts and a sweet carmel or coffee hint. Flavor is quite light on the roastedness and rather pale in general. Vanilla and toffee. joh\sh is right on. Slightly smokey and I’d say more like a soft porter than a stout. Especially an Imperial. Very easy on the bittering hops and no real bite in the aftertaste.
Nice smooth feel but pretty light on the pallette
Easy to put down and at 8.2 % Im gona be in trouble in about a half hour. JoshuaB (427), Detroit, Michigan, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Aug 30, 2005 Dark cloudy brown with some tan head. Smells of roasty malts, vanilla, and toffee. Taste was pretty weak. Some malts here and there mixed with chocolate and water. Not an Impy in my book. Starts sweet, finishes bitter. Medium-light body. I was expecting more. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Aug 17, 2005 Very dark current colour, smells like choc. tastes similair to a dark choc with coco powder hints, very nice a toned down version in the swettness department when compared to rogue choc stout.
