Commercial Description:
Having downed his forth Imperial Stout of theay, the wild eyed charlatan from Voldvostogniaky belched and hollered for the Czarina to enter his chamber and bend herself to his will. The economy was a wreck and revolt was just around the corner. Nicky the Czar dude was off playing soldier like any pale nobleman with a hemorrphagic skin condition would. Such were the final days of the old empire. Reactionary, decadent, sputnik, stroganoff, wierd, and drunk. But even as the proletariat countryside labored under inhuman conditions and a threat of being sent to futile war in the east, they wisely took the time to slam back an Imperial Stout or two. After all, life can be a real "suka", as they say in the old country. Big, black, bourgeois, bolshoy, belligerent, buxom, and scary - this is our version of the chaotic end of an era in a bottle.

Not as dark and heavy as some IS’s but good nonetheless. Mild roast flavor and hopping makes it easy to drink. Would be a good introductory I.S. for the untrained palate.

Tap at the Blind Tiger: Deep brown with a ruby hue and a tan fading ring of head. Slick feel with a very fruity flavor. Sticky raisiny notes and a touch of vanilla in the nose- Not much roast in the flavor either. But it does have a touch of black malt and molasses. A bit sweet & fruity as well as lacking the roast, bitterness and malt depth of a good example. Eh.

This was rally good. Like a slightly leaner Black Bear Stout from Bear Republic. Similar in profile and alcohol, with a less pronunced hoppy finish. I could drink this all day. Don’t understand the lowish rating. This was classy all the way. Looked great too, witha lovely creme head that took a while to fade away.

I’m not sure if I got a bad bottle or what but what I tasted does not match any other review of this stout. To me this is was the beef jerky of beer, I don’t know how it was possible this beer smelt salty with a over powering smoky aroma. This was with out a doubt the lightest colored stout I’ve ever seen light was able to pass through with no effort revealing a dark red, and no fawking head at all. Not only did it smell bad but tasted bad, it was as if I was drinking coffee stirred with a hot rod. The after taste was very bitter and lasted over half a hour. I’ve had other smoked porters that I did enjoy but this was suppose to be a imperial stout IT’S NOT!!!!! I feel i’m being to harsh on this because it was drinkable and didn’t give me the shits, its just that are so many other better choices for a good "Imperial stout

On tap at Brouwer’s. I apparently like this more than others as well. Poured a nice solid black with light tan head. Hints of coffee and bourbon (though not aged, so could be my mind playing tricks on my nose). Very sweet caramel dominates the flavor with bourbon making an appearance as well. Good full body while very drinkable. Starting to wonder if I was even served the correct beer...

I must have gotten a good bottle of this, because I thought it better than most here. Wonderful leathery, earthy, fruity, fig aroma. Clear black with red highlights, could be darker. Complex flavors mirroring the nose, but with more fruit, roasted notes, & tons of caramel/sugar flavors. Nice mouthfeel. Overall a very drinkable example of the style. Honestly I was expecting it to not be as good as it is.

I swear this stuff was better, but maybe not. My least favourite of the Lagunitas brew. Beer poured out looking flat. Malty and molassass. Roasted malts and something else - I wasn’t all that interested in smelling it too deep. Sure felt fizzy and the colour was really unimpressive - looked syrupy. I’ll get another bottle down the road and re-review because I don’t remember enjoying this this little...plus, I was getting quite tanked and was busy trying to break my hand on my kitchen table.

Dark brown, slight red tint, thin looking with short-lasting head. Subdued cocoa powder aroma, not much else. Body is thin but accessible and drinkable. The cocoa flavors are very nice, but body is boring and lacking depth. A mildly satisfying slice of cake.
